Several Warriors Advance After First Day Of ETSU Invitational

Johnson City, TN - The SWU Women's Track and Field team kicked off their 2018 portion of the indoor campaign this afternoon. The ETSU Track & Field Invitational is playing host to over 20 teams from all over the Southeast for this meet in the mountains of Tennessee.

 

Track Event Highlights:

60m Hurdles: Skylar Julian (JR) advances to the finals with a time of 9.14. Julian led all DII competitors and qualified 6th out of 44th. The finals will be on Saturday at 3:50pm.

400m: SWU Claims 2 of the Top 8 qualifying spots, an impressive feat considering over 50 women toed the line in this race. Jami Lewis topped the entire field, with a time of 58.01 to be the fastest qualifier. This time is the second best of all women in the Southeast Region. Amy Barton secured the final qualify position with a time of 59.98.

 

Field Event Highlights:

Weight Throw: Kelsie Smith set a new school record in her first outing of 2018. Her throw of 11.74 meters is a mark she will be on a mission to best again her next time in the circle.

High Jump: Tying a current school record, Paige Peterson (FR) cleared 1.60m. Her performance placed her 5th of 28 jumpers and 2nd of all DII jumpers.  Peterson now sits atop all Conference Carolinas High Jumpers.

 

What's Next:

Southern Wesleyan will continue in the ETSU Invitational on Saturday, January 13.  Saturday will feature the mile run, high jump, DMR and 4X400m relay.
