Central, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan rose above the King Tornado on Saturday afternoon in a 3-0 final.
The Warriors posted 28 kills in the victory of the Tornado with Paige O'Connor leading the team with 10 kills. O'Connor is followed by Kendall Vallancourt with six kills. Annika Jones posted 24 assists, and Katie Anderson led the team with two service aces. Anderson went on to lead the team with 14 digs. Kendall Vallancourt delivered three of the Warriors eight blocks. She was followed by Davis Hendricks and Paige O'Connor each with two blocks in the win.

How It Happened
The Warriors took the lead quickly on an attack error by Tornado Victoria Gause. However, the Tornado countered to tie the set. Southern Wesleyan would go on to pull ahead several times, but the Tornado matched them point for point. However, kills by Paige O'Connor, Olivia Johnson and Kendall Vallancourt launched the the Warriors to a 16-13 point advantage. The Tornado countered to put two points on the board, but kills by Paige O'Connor and attack errors by Tornado players, gave the Warriors a 23-15 point lead. The Warriors went on to win the first set 25-18.
Southern Wesleyan shot into the lead in the second set of the afternoon, taking a 7-1 point lead on kills by Courtney Price and Kendall Vallancourt and several attack errors by Tornado players. The Tornado gained two more points, but kills by Olivia Johnson, Katie Hendricks and Davis Hendricks shut them down to give the Warriors a ten point lead and bring the score to 13-3. Southern Wesleyan built on their lead, driving ahead to win the second set in a 25-12 final.
Back to back attack errors by the Tornado gave the Warriors a 2-0 lead in the third set, however the Tornado countered to tie the third set 4-4. Like the first set, the teams both fought for control, with one team pulling ahead and then the other taking control. Multiple attack errors by Tornado players and a kill by Paige O'Connor gave the Warriors a 20-11 point lead over King. King fought back, challenging Southern Wesleyan, but kills by Paige O'Connor and Kendall Vallancourt gave the Warriors a 25-22 victory
Southern Wesleyan will begin a travel week. They will first travel to Francis Marion to take on the Patriots on September 19 at 7 p.m. before resuming Conference Carolinas action on September 22 and 23. On September 22, the Warriors will take on the Mount Olive Trojans at 7 pm, and then on September 23 they will face the Barton Bulldogs at 2 p.m.
