Coach Gillespie Says…

"We have really struggled thus far this spring at the plate, fortunately in most games we have pitched and played well in the field.  In a couple of games we have given up really big innings and this has been our downfall.  It's on us now to get better at the plate and continue to pitch and play solid defensively."

How It Happened

Game One

The Warriors started the first inning strong.  DiMarkus Sanders singled to right field followed by a sacrifice bunt by John Garrett to advance Sanders to second base.  On a defensive error by the catcher, Sanders went on to cross home plate to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead over the Patriots.

The Francis Marion Patriots countered in the bottom of the second inning on a single by Pino to score Chapman.  White continued the Patriots second with an RBI to score Koch.  JJ Julian closed out the inning for the Warriors to keep the Patriots at a 2-1 lead over the Warriors.  Southern Wesleyan would hold Francis Marion scoreless until the bottom of the fifth when a sacrifice fly by Pino allowed Robbins to score and the Patriots were able to take the second game of the three game series 3-1.

Game Two

Southern Wesleyan struck early in the second game of the afternoon.  Senior DiMarkus Sanders singled to start off the first inning for the Warriors.  Izzy Martinez followed Sanders with another single to move the center fielder to second base.  Southern Wesleyan's catcher Conner Ewing hit the Warriors third consecutive single of the inning to allow Sanders to cross home plate.  However, the Warriors were not able to keep their first inning hit streak alive as the next three batters grounded out to end the top of the first.

The Warriors kept the Francis Marion Patriots scoreless until the bottom of the second inning.  A single by Robbins kicked off the inning for Francis Marion, and then a single by Chapman moved Robbins to second base.  DuBose doubled to bring Robbins around to score, and then Hinnant doubled to bring two more runs across the plate for the Patriots.  A double by Kennedy scored two more runs to give Francis Marion a 5-1 lead over the Warriors.  Cooley singled to give the Patriots their last run of the inning and bring their lead to 6-1.

Southern Wesleyan kept Francis Marion scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning.  Callahan reached on an error to score both Hinnant and DuBose.  Francis Marion won the game 8-1.
