Jacksonville, FL – Southern Wesleyan defeated the Trinity Baptist Eagles in a 7-5 final on Friday evening.
The Warriors had 13 hits in the victory over the Eagles. John Garrett, Jesse Getford, Julio Justo and Devin Patrick led the team with two hits apiece. Justo went on to lead the team with four RBIs. Patrick and Conner Ewing each had a walk. Getford, Justo and Quinton Bent had doubles and Justo hit his second home run of the season in the victory. Ike Thalassinos, Garrett, Getford and Ewing each had a stolen base. Southern Wesleyan struck out five batters in the victory. Freshman Vinny Adams started on the mound for Southern Wesleyan and pitched 5.1 innings while allowing five hits and striking out three to gain his first win in Warrior colors. Josh Antwine and Brandon Richeson came in to pitch in relief. Richeson picked up his first save of the season.

"It's always good to win the first game of a weekend series. It took us five innings to get the bats going, fortunately Vinny gave us a quality start and our pen finished the game for us. Looking forward to coming out tomorrow and working toward a good series on the road."
How It Happened
Conner Ewing walked with two out in the top of the fourth inning. With Ewing on first, Quinton Bent hit a double to center field. Bent tried to stretch it out to triple, but was nailed down by the Eagles center fielder. However, the double by Bent allowed Ewing to cross home plate and gave the Warriors a 1-0 lead.
John Garrett reached first on a single to left field and advanced to second on a balk. Jesse Getford doubled to left-center field to bring Garrett in to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead over the Eagles. Getford stole third to come within ninety feet of home plate, and then a double by Julio Justo brought Getford home. With Justo at second base, Conner Ewing came to the plate and hit a single to advance the runner. With runners at the corners, a sacrifice fly by Quinton Bent brought Justo home to give Southern Wesleyan a 4-0 lead. Trinity Baptists countered in the bottom of the sixth inning to score two runs, but Josh Antwine was able to the remaining batters out to keep the Warriors ahead 4-2.
The Warriors attacked again in the top of the seventh inning. With one out, John Garrett singled to shallow left field. He advanced to second on a single by Andrew Falgiano. Jesse Getford hit into a fielder's choice that allowed Garrett to reach third base, but got Falgiano out. With runners on the corners, Julio Justo hit a three-run home run to bring home Jesse Getford and John Garrett to give Warriors a 7-2 lead. The Eagles threatened in the bottom of the eighth inning to score three runs, but the Warriors got out of the inning to win the game 7-5.
Southern Wesleyan will continue against the Trinity Baptist on February 10. They will then travel to Anderson to take on the Trojans on February 14 at 3 p.m. The Warriors will then return to the Conn on February 16 and 17 as they take on a three game series against the University of Virginia-Wise.
