Warriors Storm Past Tornados

Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan strikes early on to take a 15-5 run victory over the Brevard Tornadoes on Wednesday evening.

The Warriors posted 13 hits in the victory.  John Garrett led the team with three runs.  He was followed by four with two hits each. Four Warriors had a double during the victory.  Of the 10 RBIs, Devin Patrick led the team with three and Jesse Getford followed with two.  Three Warriors walked during the game and John Garrett had two stolen bases.

Southern Wesleyan had eleven strikeouts during the game.  Tyler Parry started the game for the Warriors and pitched five innings while striking out eight and allowing seven hits.  Aaron Bennett, Brandon Richeson and Roth Mathews all came to pitch in relief for the Warriors.

How It Happened

Brevard took an early lead in the top of the first inning, but the Warriors countered in the bottom of the first.  John Garrett was hit by a pitch to lead off and then stole second base.  Julio Justo followed with a single to put Garrett 90 feet from home plate.  With runners at the corners, Quinton Bent walked to load up the bases.  Back-to-back hit batsmen put Conner Ewing and Jesse Getford on base and allowed the Warriors to tie the Tornadoes 2-2.  Devin Patrick hit a single to bring Ewing and Bent across home plate.  With the Warriors up 4-2, Andrew Falgiano reached on an error to bring Getford in and give Southern Wesleyan up 5-2 at the end of the first inning.

In the bottom of the second inning, John Garrett led off with a single, however Trey Matthews hit into a fielder's choice to get Garrett out.  A single by Quinton Bent advanced Matthews to second base.  Conner Ewing reached first base on an error to load up the bases.  With the bases loaded, Jesse Getford walked to bring Matthews in.  An error by the shortstop allowed Devin Patrick to reach first and brough Ewing and Bent home to put the Warriors up 8-2.

John Garrett hit a ground rule double in the bottom of the third inning.  With Garrett on second, Julio Justo singled to bring Garrett across home plate to put the Warriors up 9-2.

Brevard put a third run on the board in the top of the fourth, but Southern Wesleyan lengthened their lead in the bottom of the fifth.  Andrew Falgiano led off the bottom of the fifth with a double to left field.  Noah Fritz followed with a double down the left field line to bring Falgiano in to score.  With a runner in scoring position, John Garrett singled to the pitcher.  Garrett stole second moments later to put both runners in scoring position.  Trey Matthews reached on an error to bring Garrett and Fritz in to score.  Julio Justo was hit by a pitch and then a single brought Matthews in to score.  With runners on first and second, Devin Patrick singled to left field to bring Justo in.  A single by Andrew Falgiano moved Patrick to second and then brought Bent in to score to put the Warriors up 15-3.  Brevard put up two runs in the top of the seventh, but Southern Wesleyan won in a 15-5 final.


What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will next host the King Tornado on March 9 and 10.  They will host their annual Military Appreciation day on March 10 with a special ceremony starting at 12:30 and first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
