Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan split the first two game of the series with the Barton Bulldogs. After falling 10-5 in game one, the Warriors came back to win the second game 13-5.
Southern Wesleyan posted 10 hits in the game one loss. Trey Matthews and Julio Justo led the team with two hits during the game. Jesse Getford doubled, and Justo, Quinton Bent and Devin Patrick each homered during the loss. Two Warriors walked and Steven Perez posted a sacrifice bunt. Mike Batten started game one of the series and lasted 7.1 innings while striking out 10 batters. Josh Core came in to pitch in relief and struck four while pitching 3.2 innings.
The Warriors put up 11 hits in the game two victory over the Bulldogs. Izzy Martinez and Jesse Getford each put up three hits. Martinez and Getford each doubled during the game, Steven Perez tripled and Getford hit a home run in the victory. Conner Ewing recorded three of the Warriors seven walks during the game. Southern Wesleyan recorded six strikeouts in game two, with relief pitcher Vinny Adams leading the team with four.

How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan took an early lead in the bottom of the second inning. Trey Matthews reached on a dropped third strike and then advanced to second on a passed ball. With one runner in scoring position, Devin Patrick homered over the left field wall to bring Matthews in and put the Warriors up 2-0.
In the bottom of the third Southern Wesleyan extended their lead. Ike Thalassinos singled through the left side and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. When Izzy Martinez grounded out, Thalassinos advanced to third base. With a runner ninety feet from home, Quinton Bent hit a home run over the left field wall to put the Warriors on top of the Bulldogs 4-0.
The Bulldogs put up runs in the top of the fourth and fifth inning to tie the game 4-4. In the top of the eighth, Colby Warren homered to give Barton the lead. However, in the bottom of the ninth, Julio Justo hit a home run to left field to tie the game and force the game into extra innings.
Barton came back to score five runs in the top of the eleventh inning to win the game.
Southern Wesleyan jumped out in the bottom of the first inning. Izzy Martinez led off with a single to center field. Martinez advanced to second on a single up the middle by Quinton Bent. Julio Justo followed up with a walk to lead up the bases. With the bases loaded, Jesse Getford singled through the left side to bring Bent and Martinez in and give the Warriors a 2-0 lead.
Barton countered in the top of the second with a three run home run, and then extended their lead to 5-2 in the top of the fourth.
The Warriors countered in the bottom of the fourth inning. Steven Perez led off with a triple to center field, and then came in to score when Ike Thalassinos singled to left field. John Garrett was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second. With two runners on, Izzy Martinez doubled down the left field line to bring Thalassinos in to score. Quinton Bent grounded out, but Garrett came in to score on the play to allow the Warriors to tie the Bulldogs. A grounded out by Julio Justo, brought Martinez across home plate to give the Warriors the lead. Conner Ewing followed with a walk and then came in to score when Jesse Getford doubled into left field to put the Warriors on top 7-5.
Southern Wesleyan extended their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Steven Perez led off with a single and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Ike Thalassinos followed with a walk. With two runners on, John Garrett reached first on an error by the third baseman to advance Thalassinos to second and bring Perez in to score. A walk to Izzy Martinez loaded up the bases. A passed ball allowed Thalassinos to come in and score, and then a wild pitch allowed Garrett to cross home plate. Conner Ewing walk to put runners on the corners and bring Jesse Getford up to bat. Getford hit a home run to left field to bring Ewing and Martinez in to allow the Warriors to win the game 13-5.
Southern Wesleyan will continue their three game series versus the Barton Bulldogs on March 31 at 12 p.m. They will then take on the Truett-McConnell Bears on April 3 at 6 p.m.
