Warriors Fall In Series Opener To Saints

Gaffney, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell in the first two games of the three game series versus the Limestone Saints on April 6.  The Warriors lost game one 11-2 and fell 11-1 in game two of the evening.

The Warriors recorded nine hits in game one.  Ike Thalassinos and Jesse Getford led the team with two hits each.  Thalassinos tripled during the game.  John Garrett and Izzy Martinez had the lone RBIs.  Two Warriors walked, and Quinton Bent and Jesse Getford each stole a base during the loss.  Southern Wesleyan recorded nine strikeouts during the game, with starting pitcher Mike Batten striking out eight while allowing eight hits during the loss.  Vinny Adams came in to pitch in relief for the Warriors in the first game of the afternoon.

Southern Wesleyan recorded eight hits in game two.  Jesse Getford and Steven Perez led the team with two hits each, and Quinton Bent recorded the lone RBI.  Five Warriors walked in game two.  Tyler Parry started the second game and struck out two batters while allowing nine hits.  Josh Antwine and Tyler Rio came in to pitch in relief.

How It Happened

Game One

Southern Wesleyan struck first against Limestone in the top of the fifth inning.  Ike Thalassinos led off with a triple.  Thalassinos came in to score on a fielder's choice by John Garrett.  Garrett advanced to second on a wild pitch.  With a runner at second, Izzy Martinez singled up the middle and bring Garrett in to score.  However, home runs by Allen propelled the Saints ahead to take an 11-2 victory over the Warriors in game one.

Game Two

Limestone jumped out early in game two.  Home runs quickly pushed the Saints ahead 11-1.  Southern Wesleyan countered in the top of the seven inning.  AJ Canine walked and then advanced to second base.  With one on, Quinton Bent singled to bring Canine in to score.  Despite the late run, the Saints won the second game 11-1.

 

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will conclude their three game series with the Saints on April 8 at 2 p.m.  They will then return home to take on the Young Harris Mountain Lions on April 11.
