Warriors Fall In Late Innings To Lions

Franklin Springs, GA – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Emmanuel Lions in extra inning action on Friday evening in a 6-4 final score.

The Warriors recorded nine hits in the extra inning loss with senior John Garrett leading the team with three.  Garrett led the team with his first collegiate home run and a triple.  Trey Matthews also homered in the game.  Southern Wesleyan had five walks with Devin Patrick having two during the game.  Andrew Falgiano had a stolen base and Izzy Martinez had a sacrifice bunt.

Southern Wesleyan recorded 12 strikeouts in the loss to Emmanuel.  Mike Batten started the game for the Warriors and went six innings while striking out four batters.  Vinny Adams and Josh Core came in to pitch for relief.  Core led the team with six strikeouts in the loss.

How It Happened

Southern Wesleyan jumped out in the top of the first inning.  John Garrett led off with a triple to right center and then came in to score when Izzy Martinez grounded out to put the Warriors on top 1-0.

A home run by Trey Matthews in the second inning gave Southern Wesleyan a 2-0 lead.  In the top of the third inning, John Garrett hit his first collegiate home run to push the Warriors lead to 3-0.  Izzy Martinez followed with a walk and then Julio Justo was hit by a pitch to put two runners on the bases.  Trey Matthews singled to right field to bring Martinez in.

Despite the early lead, the Lions fought back to tie the game.  The Warriors and Lions battled it out until the bottom of the thirteenth when a two run home run gave Emmanuel a 6-4 victory.
