Florence, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell to Francis Marion and Claflin in the double header on Friday. Claflin bested the Warriors in the first game in a 13-12 final, and then Francis Marion beat the Warriors 11-1 in the second game.
Southern Wesleyan recorded 14 hits in the loss to Claflin. Bryson Fowler led the team with three hits in the game. Fowler was followed by Ty King Richards, Quinton Bent, Julio Justo and Devin Patrick with two hits apiece. Four Warriors posted doubles durin the game. Justo went on to lead the team with three RBIs while Tanner Glass led the team with four runs. The Warriors had eight walks with Glass and Timo Schau leading the team with three each. DJ Ludwick had the lone stolen base for the Warriors. Tyler Parry started in the first game for the Warriors and pitched 1.1 innings while striking out one batter. Jake Wisniewski, Aaron Bennett and Josh Core came and pitched in relief. Bennett led the team with four strikeouts over six innings.
The Warriors recorded three hits in the second game loss to Francis Marion. Ty King Richards, Tanner Glass and Jarred Jones had the lone hits of the game for Southern Wesleyan. King Richards had a double during the game while Glass recorded the lone run for the Warriors. Southern Wesleyan posted five walks with Izzy Martinez recording two walks. Josh Antwine started the game for the Warriors and pitched three innings while striking out two. Daniel Singleton and Cole Standifer came in to pitch in relief for the Warriors. Standifer led the team with six strikeouts while allowing one hit over 3.2 innings.

How It Happened
Game One: Southern Wesleyan VS Claflin
Southern Wesleyan kicked off the first inning with a single by Ty King Richards. Richards advanced to second as Timo Schau walked to put runners at first and second with no outs. Quinton Bent singled to right center to bring Richards in and put the Warriors on top 1-0. Tanner Glass walked to load up the bases and bring Julio Justo up to bat. Justo walked in a run and then a single up the middle by Devin Patrick brought Bent and Glass home. The Warriors continued to pressure the Panthers defense as Bryson Fowler hit a single to left field to load up the bases with no out. DJ Ludwick reached on a fielder's choice to bring Justo in and put the Warriors on top 5-0 at the end of the first.
The Claflin Panthers countered in the bottom of the first to put three runs on the board. The Panthers took the lead in the third inning as singles by Melton and McElveen put the Panthers ahead took a 10-5 run advantage.
Southern Wesleyan pressured back as Tanner Glass reached first on a single through the right side and then advanced to second on a single by Julio Justo. With Glass and Justo on base, Devin Patrick singled through the right side to load up the bases. A double by Bryson Fowler allowed both Glass and Justo to come around and score. Ty King Richards hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring Patrick in and put the Warriors down 9-12.
The Warriors tied the game up in the eighth inning. Quinton Bent doubled down the left field line and then advanced to third on a wild pitch. Tanner Glass followed with a walk to put runners on the corners. A sacrifice fly to left field by Julio Justo brought Bent across home plate to make the score 10-12. Bryson Fowler singled to right field to advance Glass up a base. With two outs, Jarred Jones came in to pinch hit for Sawyer Price. Jones doubled to left center to bring both Glass and Fowler in to tie the game.
Claflin fought back to win the game as Hopkins singled to bring Towers in to score and win the game 13-12.
Game Two: Southern Wesleyan VS Francis Marion
The Patriots attacked early as Hinnant singled and then advanced to second base as Taylor walked. With two runners on, a single by Pappas allowed Francis Marion to take a 2-0 lead over the Warriors. They extended their lead to 4-0 on a sacrifice fly by Cottingham.
Southern Wesleyan countered in the top of the second inning. Tanner Glass was hit by a pitch and then advanced to second on a passed ball. As Devin Patrick grounded out to first, Glass moved up to third. A throwing error by the shortstop allowed Conner Ewing to reach first base and brought Glass in to put the Warriors down 4-1.
Francis Marion extended their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning when a double by Hinnant brought Jackson, Griffith and Mackinson in to put the Patriots on top 11-1 and win the game.
Southern Wesleyan will remain in Florence, SC as they take on the Francis Marion Patriots on February 2. They will then travel to Jacksonville, FL to take on the Trinity Baptist Eagles on February 8th and 9th.
