Coach Gillespie says…

"Always great to get a win, obviously have some things to continue working on.  Very proud of the way our guys handled adversity in the ninth inning.  We talk about embracing pressure, making it a challenge and not a threat, and we embraced it in the bottom half to come out on top.  Excited to get back to work tomorrow and three games this weekend."

How It Happened

Mars Hill struck early, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as a single by McCurry brought Devin Mangum across the plate.  They extended their lead to 2-0 in the top of the second inning.

The Warriors continued to pepper the Lions pitching with hits, with their work paying off in the bottom of the fifth.  Conner Ewing reached on a double to left field and then DJ Ludwick followed with a walk.  With two on, Ty King Richards followed with a walk to load the bases.  Timo Schau singled to bring both Ewing and Ludwick in and tie the game.  With runners on the corners, Jarred Jones reached first on a fielder's choice that brought Richards in and put the Warriors ahead 3-2.

Quinton Bent kicked off the bottom of sixth inning with a single up the middle, but was out at second as Julio Justo singled up the middle.  With one on, Devin Patrick doubled to drive Justo in and extend Southern Wesleyan's lead to 4-2.

The Lions fought back, scoring two runs in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game 4-4.  The Warriors countered in the bottom of the seventh to regain the lead.  Timo Schau doubled to right field and then came in to score as Jarred Jones singled to put the Warriors up 5-4.

Mars Hill tied the game in the top of the ninth inning, but Josh Core and the Warriors defense were able to keep the Lions from taking the lead.  In the bottom of the ninth inning, DJ Ludwick was hit by a pitch and then advanced to second base as Timo Schau walked.  With two on and one out, Jarred Jones singled to bring Ludwick in and give the Warriors a 6-5 victory.
