Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan took the first two games against the University of Virginia – Wise Cavaliers in 6-3 and 4-3 final scores.
Southern Wesleyan recorded 12 hits in the first game victory. Five Warriors had two hits in the game with both Julio Justo and Devin Patrick delivering doubles. Jarred Jones led the team with two of the five RBIs. Ty King Richards posted a sacrifice bunt in the victory. Aaron Bennet pitched a complete game for the Warriors, recording nine strikeouts while allowing seven hits.
The Warriors posted 11 hits in game two, with Tanner Glass leading the team with three hits in the victory. Glass was followed by three Warriors with two hits apiece. Julio Justo and Quinton Bent both had doubles in the victory. Bent led the team with two of the Warriors four RBIs. Jarred Jones had the lone walk of the game for Southern Wesleyan. Jones started the game for Southern Wesleyan, going 3.1 innings while striking out three. Jackson Fischer came in to pitch in relief, striking out four batters and picking up his first win of the season.

"Really proud of our guys today. We pitched really well in game one and had some key hits, while protecting the baseball the entire game. We showed some resilience in game two after some early errors. We settled down and showed confidence in the end. Excited to see how we come out tomorrow."
How It Happened
Virginia-Wise took the first runs of the day to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the second, but Southern Wesleyan countered in the bottom of the inning. Quinton Bent singled to left field and came in to score as Devin Patrick doubled to left field. Bryson Fowler followed with a walk to put two on and one out. DJ Ludwick followed with a single to right field to load the bases. With the bases loaded, Ty King Richards singled to right to bring Patrick in to tie the game 2-2.
Southern Wesleyan took the lead in the bottom of the third. Jarred Jones led off with a single to center field and then advanced to third base on a passed ball. With a runner ninety feet from home, Julio Justo doubled down the left field line to put the Warriors up 3-2.
However, the Cavaliers tied the game at three in the top of the fourth inning. Southern Wesleyan would not go down quietly as Bryston Fowler was hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the fourth inning. With Fowler on first, Ty King Richards singled to right center to put two on base and bring Timo Schau up to bat. Schau singled through the right side to load the bases for Jarred Jones. A single by Jones brought both Fowler and King Richards in and give the Warriors a 5-3 lead. A passed ball allowed Schau to come home and allowed the Warriors to win the game 6-3.
The Cavaliers took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, and then extended their lead to 3-0 of the fourth inning. Southern Wesleyan countered in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game. Julio Justo singled and then advanced to second on a single by Tanner Glass. With two on, Quinton Bent doubled to right center to bring both Justo and Glass in to score. A wild pitched allowed Bent to move to third and then a single up the middle by Bryson Fowler brought Bent in to tie the game 3-3.
Jackson Fischer shut down the Cavaliers offense in the sixth and seventh innings to bring Southern Wesleyan up to bat. Jarred Jones walked, but was out at home as Julio Justo doubled to center field. Nolan Steevens came in to pinch run for Justo and advanced to third on a balk by the Cavaliers pitcher. With Steevens on third, Tanner Glass hit a walk-off single to left field to bring Steevens in and win the game in a 4-3 final score.
Southern Wesleyan will continue the three game series against Virginia-Wise on February 16 at 1 p.m. They will then travel to take on the Benedict Tigers on February 19 at 1 p.m. They will then return to Dr. C Keith Connor Field on February 22 and 23 as they open up Conference Carolinas action against the Emmanuel Lions.
