Belmont, NC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Belmont Abbey Crusaders in the final two games of the series in 9-7 and 15-4 final scores.
The Warriors recorded 10 hits in the game one loss to the Crusaders. Julio Justo and Jarred Jones led the Warriors with three hits apiece. Jones, Timo Schau and Devin Patrick each recorded doubles. Justo recorded four of the seven RBIs. Bryson Fowler and Quinton Bent each recorded two of the five walks of the game. Sawyer Price posted the lone sacrifice bunt and Schau had a sacrifice fly during the game. Jarred Jones started the first game of the afternoon and struck out one over 2.2 innings. Jackson Fischer came in to pitch in relief and struck out three.
Southern Wesleyan had 13 hits in the loss with Tyler Fuller leading the team with three hits. Timo Schau, Conner Ewing and Tyler Fuller all had doubles during the game. Julio Justo had two of the four RBIs. Izzy Martinez and Quinton Bent were the lone Warriors to walk in the game, and Ty King Richards recorded a sacrifice fly out. TJ McEvilly started the final game of the series, and lasted 0.2 innings while allowing four hits. Josh Antwine, Daniel Singleton, Bryson Fowler and Jake Wizniewski came in to pitch in relief. Singleton contributed five of the eight strikeouts while pitching 3.2 innings.

How It Happened
Belmont Abbey struck first as three runs cross the plate in the bottom of the first inning. Southern Wesleyan countered in the top of the third inning. Ty King Richards reached on a throwing error by the shortstop and then advanced to second base on a singled down the left field line by Jarred Jones. With two on, Julio Justo singled to right center to allow King Richards to score and put the Warriors down 3-1. However, the Crusaders scored two more in the bottom of the inning off a home run by Rolly to put them ahead 5-1.
Southern Wesleyan continued to pressure, plating five runs in the top of the fourth inning. Devin Patrick led off with a double down the right field and then Tanner Glass reached first on a fielding error by the third baseman. With two on and no outs, Sawyer Price grounded out to the pitcher with a sacrifice bunt to advance both runners ninety feet. With both runners in scoring position, Ty King Richards singled to left field to allow Patrick to score and advance Glass to third. Timo Schau hit a sacrifice fly out to right field to allow Glass to score. Bryson Fowler followed with a walk to advance King Richards to second. With two on, Jarred Jones doubled to right field to bring King Richards in. A single by Julio Justo allowed both Fowler and Jones to score to put the Warriors on top 6-5.
The lead was short lived as the Crusaders brought three more runs in in the bottom of the fourth. The Warriors continued to threaten in the top of the sixth inning. Timo Schau led off the inning with a double to right center and then came in to score on a single to right center by Julio Justo. However, the late rally was not enough as Belmont Abbey took game one 9-7.
Southern Wesleyan attacked first in game two of the afternoon. Timo Schau led off with a single up the middle and then advanced to second on a single by Jarred Jones. With one out and two on, Julio Justo singled to center field to bring Schau in to score. The lead was short lived as Belmont Abbey retaliated with six runs in the bottom of the inning.
The Warriors continued to pressure in the second inning. Conner Ewing reached first on a throwing error by the third baseman and then advanced to second off a single by Tyler Fuller. With two on and no one out, Sean Sutay singled through the left side the load the bases. Ty King Richards followed with a sacrifice fly to right field to allow Ewing to come in and score. With one out, Timo Schau doubled down the right field line to score Fuller and put the Warriors down 6-3.
Belmont Abbey continued to distance themselves from the Warriors, scoring in the bottom of the third, fourth, seventh and eighth innings to lead 15-3.
The Warriors were able to put one more run on the board before the conclusion of the final game against the Crusaders. With two outs, Izzy Martinez walked and then Tanner Glass reached first on a fielding error by the short stop to put two on. Julio Justo followed with a single to right field to bring Martinez in and put Southern Wesleyan down 15-4 to conclude the game.
Southern Wesleyan will remain on the road as they travel to Dahlonega, GA to take on the North Georgia Nighthawks on March 27 at 5 p.m. They will then travel to Tigerville, SC to take on the North Greenville Crusaders on March 29-30.
