King Bests Southern Wesleyan In Second Half

Bristol, TN – Southern Wesleyan fell to the King Tornado in a 104-80 final score on Saturday afternoon.

The Warriors shot 44.4% from the field and were 34.5% at the three point line.  Four Warriors posted double digits in points scored in the loss to the Tornado.  Jeremy Wert led the team with 21 points.  Gavin Sears posted 16 points, Justice McCullough posted 15 and Jacob Smith had 11.  Three Warriors had three assists.

The Warriors recorded 42 rebounds in the loss.  Justice McCullough led the team with 11.  Jalen Lowery had the lone block for Southern Wesleyan in the loss and four Warriors had a steal.

How It Happened

The Tornado jumped out early on with a three point jump shot by Dontae Campbell, but then back-to-back shots by Justice McCullough allowed the Warriors to take a 4-3 point lead.  A three point jump shot by Jacob Smith allowed the Warriors to take a 7-5 point lead.  Three point shots by Jeremy Wert and Smith pushed Southern Wesleyan's lead to 15-8.  The Tornado came within three with layups by Shon'dre Dukes and Mack Owens.  However layups by Justice McCullough and Jeremy Wert allowed the Warriors to put their lead at seven and make the score 19-12.  King countered, but a three point shot by Wert allowed the Warriors to maintain the lead at 25-19.  The Tornado pushed forward to tie the game at 25 apiece.  A three point shot by Dontae Campbell put the Tornado up 30-25.  Shots by Wert and Gavin Sears allowed to Warriors to come to within three of the Tornado and make the score 29-32.  King pushed ahead again, but the Warriors countered to tie it back up 35-35 on a three point shot by Wert.  Bryson Williams made a three point jump shot to give Southern Wesleyan a 42-41 lead with just over three minutes left in the first half.  At the half, the Tornado led the game 48-44.

King jumped out first in the second half on a layup by Mack Owens to give the Tornado a 50-44 point advantage.  The Warriors countered on a three point shot by Jacob Smith to come to 47-53 behind the Tornado.  A layup by Justice McCullough allowed the Warriors to come to within seven points of the Tornado.  King broke out to take a ten point lead on a dunk by Shon'dre Dukes.  Jeremy Wert made a three point jump shot off a pass by Zalan Richards to make the score 69-53.  King continue to push ahead, but a free throw by Gavin sears put the Warriors down 54-76.  Gavin Sears and Justice McCullough made shots to make the score 60-85, however back-to-back shots allowed the Tornado to take a thirty point lead.  Back-to-back three point jump shots by freshman Issac Ford allowed the Warriors to shorten King's lead to 68-92.  With just over two minutes to play, a free throw by Desmond Davis allowed King to reach triple digits on the score board and give them a 100-74 point advantage.  Gavin Sears made a jump shot and layup for the Warriors, but the Tornado won in a 104-80 final score.


What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will take on Mars Hill on February 12 at 7 p.m.  They will travel to Emmanuel to take on the Lions on February 17th.
