Belmont, NC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Belmont Abbey Crusaders in a 79-58 final on Saturday afternoon.
The Warriors shot 33.8% from the field in the loss. Jeremy Wert led the team with 17 points. Wert was closely followed by Lamont Smith with 13 points and Jalen Lowery with 12. Southern Wesleyan recorded 30 rebounds in the loss with Wert and Zalan Richards with six rebounds each. Lowery led the team with five assists and two steals. The Warriors recorded four blocks, with Wert leading the team with two.

How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan struck first as Jeremy Wert sunk a three point shot to put the Warriors on top 3-0, but the Crusaders quickly countered to tie the game at three on a three point shot by DeQuan Abrom. Belmont Abbey pushed ahead by back-to-back layups by Romeao Ferguson and Abrom to take a 7-3 point advantage, but Southern Wesleyan countered on a layup by Jalen Lowery to make the score 5-7. Wert made a three point jump shot to allow the Warriors to take a 12-11 point lead, but the lead was short lived as Belmont Abbey took a 14-12 point lead on a three point jump shot by Ben Ferguson. The Crusaders pushed ahead to take a ten point lead on a three point shot by LJ McCoy, but the Warriors countered with a three point jump shot of their own to make the score 15-22. Both continued to battle, but the Crusaders remained on top at the half with a 33-24 point lead.
The Warriors attacked first in the second half as Jeremy Wert made a layup to come to 26-33 behind the Crusaders. Belmont Abbey continued to push ahead, but Southern Wesleyan was right behind them as Javon Hunter made a three point jump shot to come to 29-37 behind the Crusaders. A three point shot by Jeremy Wert put the Warriors within eight points, but a jump shot by Romeao Ferguson put the Crusaders on top by ten and make the score 42-32. Belmont Abbey pushed ahead to take a 55-35 point advantage, but Southern Wesleyan countered with back-to-back three point jump shots by Lamont Smith. Three point shots by Ben Ferguson and DeQuan Abrom allowed the Crusaders distance themselves from the Warriors. Southern Wesleyan continued to challenge, but Belmont Abbey came out on top with a 79-58 final.
Southern Wesleyan will next hit the road to Bob Jones on December 8 to take on the Bruins at 7:30 p.m. The Warriors will then resume Conference Carolinas action as they travel to Banner Elk, NC to take on the Lees-McRae Bobcats at 7:30 p.m.
