Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Catawba Indians in a 92-71 final on Wednesday afternoon.
The Warriors shot 43.6% from the field in the loss to the Indians on Wednesday. Christian McLean led the team with 17 points. Javon Hunter led the team with six of the twenty assists of the game. Southern Wesleyan recorded 30 rebounds with Zalan Richards and Isaac Ford leading the team with six apiece. Jalen Lowery and Jeremy Wert led the team with two steals apiece.

How It Happened
The Indians struck first in the contest on Wednesday afternoon but the Warriors quickly answered with a layup from Jeremy Wert. The Warriors took an early 7-5 lead on a layup from Lamont Smith, but the Indians quick pace put them back on top soon after. Both teams battled back and forth for a majority of the first half; no one keeping a steady lead. After a 3-pointer from the Indians Devin Cooper to go up 25-22, Catawba took advantage of the momentum as they fought to increase their lead. The Warriors were able to cut it to five, trailing 39-44 at halftime.
Daquan Lilly answered first in the second half for the Indians before Diego Poore could respond for the Warriors. After pairs of free throws, the Warriors trailed 49-59 halfway through the second half. Southern Wesleyan continued to challenge to the Indians, but the quick offense was enough for them to extend their lead. Despite late effort from the Warriors, Catawba went on to win the game 92-71.
Southern Wesleyan will remain at home as they host the Barton Bulldogs on January 5 at 4 p.m. and they will take on the Limestone Saints on January 8 at 7:30 p.m.
