Warriors Challenge, But Saints Win Out

Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Limestone Saints on Tuesday evening in a 90-82 final.

Christian McLean led the team with a double-double posting 20 points and 11 rebounds. He was also joined by Jalen Lowery who had 20 points. The Warriors shot 45.8% from the field in the loss to the Saints on Tuesday. McLean also led the team with two steals and tied with Javon Hunter with three assists apiece.

How It Happened

The Saints struck first in the contest on Tuesday evening, but the Warriors took a quick 6-4 lead. Both teams battled back and forth before a pair of free throws from Jaquan Simms put the Saints up 10-8. The Saints ran with the momentum and held the Warriors until a 3-pointer from Jalen Lowery put them back into the game only trailing 26-30. Shots from Isaac Ford and Lamont Smith put the Warriors ahead 36-34 for a short time. The Saints answered with several free throws and a pair of 3-pointers to lead 48-37 at the half.

Diego Poore nailed a 3-pointer to start the second half for the Warriors. Southern Wesleyan was able to narrow the Saints lead to 53-55 with a layup from Javon Hunter. The Saints were able to go on a run, but the Warriors showed that they were not done fighting. Several Warriors made shots to shorten the Saints lead. Smith and Christian McLean answered big from the 3-point line and had the Warriors only trailing 72-75. Despite a late effort, the Saints were able to come out strong from the free throw line to go on and win the game 90-82.

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will remain at home on January 12 to take on the Belmont Abbey Crusaders at 4 p.m. The Warriors will then travel to Emmanuel to take on the Lions on January 16 at 7:30 p.m.
