Warriors Challenge But Fall To Crusaders

Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Belmont Abbey Crusaders in a 67-50 final on Saturday afternoon.

The Warriors were led by Jalen Lowery with 15 points in the loss on Saturday afternoon. He was followed by Christian McLean with 11 points. The team shot 70.6% from the free throw line. The Warriors recorded 31 rebounds with McLean leading the team with nine. Diego Poore and Lamont Smith had 3 assists each. Lowery had the lone block for the Warriors and Smith led the team with 4 of the 9 steals in the loss.

How It Happened

Jalen Lowery struck first in the contest to put the Warriors on the board first. The Crusaders responded, but Lowery made another 3-pointer followed by a layup from Zalan Richards to put the Warriors up 8-2. Despite another basket from Belmont, the Warriors made strides to increase their lead to 15-7. The Warriors continued to play with intensity and held the Crusaders for most of the first half. After going up 22-13, the Crusaders came back to tie it at 24-24. Isaac Ford shot to put the Warriors up 28-26, but the Crusaders were able to come out on top 29-28 at the half.

The Warriors jumped out in the second half with a 3-pointer from Javon Hunter to lead 31-29. The Crusaders regained the lead, but Lowery and McLean tied it back up at 36-36. Both teams battled back and forth until the Crusaders went on a run after going up 42-38 on the Warriors. Belmont Abbey was able to extend their lead and despite late free throws from Lowery, the Crusaders went on to win the game 67-50.

The Warriors will travel to Franklin Springs, GA to take on the Emmanuel Lions on Wednesday, January 16 at 7:30 p.m. and will then travel to Gaffney, SC to play the Limestone Saints on Saturday, January 19 at 4 p.m.
