Warriors Fall In Final Seconds To Lions

Central, SC - Southern Wesleyan fell to the Emmanuel College Lions in a 71-70 final on Wednesday evening.

Southern Wesleyan shot 53.1% from the field in the loss. Jalen Lowery led the Warriors with 29 points. He was followed by Jacob Smith with 17 points. The Warriors recorded 27 rebounds. Isaac Ford led the team with nine. Ford also led the team in assists with seven and Lowery led the team with four of the nine steals.

How It Happened

The Lions jumped out first in the contest with a jumper, but the Warriors countered with a jumper from Zalan Richards to tie it up. The Warriors went on a 7-0 run to take an early lead. The Lions were able to answer with a shot from Austin Greene, but Isaac Ford put up another basket to increase the lead to 13-6. Emmanuel was able to tie it up 19-19, but they never gained the lead. Jacob Smith and Jalen Lowery silenced their momentum with made 3-pointers to lead 25-19. Despite a late dunk from the Lions, the Warriors led 30-26 at the half. 

The Warriors came out firing in the second half with back-to-back shots from Lowery to lead 35-29. Southern Wesleyan showed up big time from the 3-point line with shots from Smith, Lowery and Diego Poore to lead 44-31. The Lions slowly gained momentum, but still played catch-up a majority of the second half. Emmanuel amped up their defense and challenged the Warriors. For most of the half, both teams traded baskets before the Lions tied it up 66-66. Smith made a free throw to give the Warriors some edge, but Emmanuel answered with a made free throw of their own. Kyler Ingram made a layup to give the Lions a 69-67 lead. Lowery countered with a 3-pointer at the shot clock buzzer to give the Warriors a 70-69 lead with 24 seconds left. Unfortunately, the Lions made a layup with 9 seconds left to go on and win the game 71-70.

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will host their final game of the season on February 26 at 7:30 p.m. This will also be Senior Night and the Warriors will be playing the King Tornado.
