Ryan Burke posted a 77/73 in the AU Invitational and helped lead the Warriors to a 2nd place finish in the season's first tournament.
SWU was in 3rd place after day one, shooting a team 303, just eight shots off the lead. The Warriors gained ground on day two, but couldn't get closer than four strokes off the lead. Catawba claimed the win, shooting a team 595. SWU countered with a 599.
SWU actually posted the low round of the day, but couldn't overcome the previous day's deficit. The Warriors team total was 43 shots better than their score last year.
"I am proud of the guys for a solid finish and especially proud of the way they finished the round off today," commented head coach Joey Maxon. He continued, " this is the type of team that is going to have several chances to win events throughout the course of the year, today was just part of the learning process."
The Warriors will now look to compete in the NCCAA South Region at the end of the month.
