Warriors Win First Conference Carolinas Game of the Season

Tigerville, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan wins first Conference Carolinas match up of the season on September 9 against the North Greenville University Crusaders.

The Warriors posted 15 shots with six shots on goal in the debate against the Crusaders.  Grant Kiker led the team with three shots of goal, while Izzy Evans, Hosanna Fukuzawa and Marcel Joseph followed him with one shot on goal each.  Kiker went on to score the first hat trick of the season for the Warriors with scoring all three of the goals in the victory.  Miguel Uribe played the whole game in goal for the Warriors and had two saves while allowing one goal.

How It Happened

Southern Wesleyan struck first in the debate against North Greenville on a goal by Grant Kiker to score the first goal of his career.  Several Warriors and Crusaders took shots, but none of them made it to the goal.  With just minutes remaining in the first half, North Greenville's Nick Roberson tied the game with a goal.

Southern Wesleyan pulled ahead in the second half when Grant Kiker scored his second goal of the day to give the Warriors a 2-1 advantage.  Southern Wesleyan attacked again when Isreal Evans drove the ball toward the net for a shot, but North Greenville's goalkeeper James Miller saved the ball.  Crusader Andrew Sweat took a shot in an attempt to tie the game, but Miguel Uribe saved the ball to keep them from tying the game.  Southern Wesleyan was not finished as Grant Kiker struck again to score his third goal of the game and first hat trick of his Warrior career.  Southern Wesleyan won their first Conference Carolinas game of the season in a 3-1 final.


What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will travel on September 13 to take on the Clayton State Lakers at 7 p.m.  The Warriors will then return home to host their first Conference Carolinas game at home against the Belmont Abbey College Crusaders at 7 p.m.
