Late Goal Gives Warriors Victory Over Rams

Columbia, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan defeats the Columbia International Rams in a 2-1 final.

The Warriors took 18 shots with eight shots on goal.  Grant Kiker led the team with four shots.  He was followed by Marcel Joseph and Jhon Peter Mareus with three shots.  Kiker and Mareus also led the team in shots on goal with two apiece.  Both Grant Kiker and Jhon Peter Mareus scored goals in the victory.  Sebastian Castro and Alex Olson posted assists.  Miguel Uribe played in goal for the Warriors and recorded four saves while allowing one goal in the ninety minutes of play.

How It Happened                                                                       

Columbia International struck first in the evening on a goal by freshman Alvaro Urena to take a 1-0 lead over Southern Wesleyan.  The Rams took another shot, but a save by Miguel Uribe prevented Columbia International from lengthening their lead.  Jhon Peter Mareus drove the ball into the net to allow the Warriors to tie the game 1-1.

The game remained tied with both teams fighting to take the lead.  Marcel Joseph dribbled the ball down the field and passed it to Alex Olson who crossed it to Grank Kiker.  Kiker drilled the ball into the net to give the Warriors a 2-1 point lead.  Southern Wesleyan won the game in a 2-1 final score.


What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will return home on September 23 to take on the Barton College Bulldogs at 4 p.m.  They will remain at home on September 27 to take on the Emmanuel Lions at 7 p.m.
