How It Happened
Erskine and Southern Wesleyan battled it out from the start with shots by Dario Pavon, Zackery White and Grant Kiker. However, a foul allowed the Warriors to take a penalty kick. Marshall Ball came up to take the kick and scored his first career goal to put the Warriors up 1-0. However, the Flying Fleet countered with a goal by Dario Pavon to tie the game going into the half.
The Flying Fleet challenged, taking several shots on goal in an attempt to pull ahead, but Miguel Uribe saved the ball from the net each time. The Warriors would not be silenced as Cale McLarnon passed the ball around the Erskine defense to Ben Baker. Baker drilled the ball around Alex Pico to score his first career goal as a Warrior and put Southern Wesleyan up 2-1. With just over two minutes left to play, the Flying Fleet had an opportunity to take a penalty kick, but Miguel Uribe got in front of Dario Pavon's shot to allow the Warriors to win the game.
Southern Wesleyan will next open up a two game road trip. The Warriors will first travel to Chowan on September 22 to take on the Hawks at 3:30 p.m. They will then travel to Barton to take on the Bulldogs on September 24.
