Kansas City, MO. – United Soccer Coaches announced on Thursday the Team Academic Award winners at the high school and collegiate levels to recognize exemplary performance in the classroom during the 2017-18 academic year. Conference Carolinas had six men's teams and three women's teams recognized for their academic achievements during the 2017-18 season. Among those teams recognized was Southern Wesleyan's Men's Soccer program.
A total of 773 college teams (289 men, 484 women) earned the Team Academic Award, including 191 schools who had both their men's and women's programs among the recipients. College Team Academic Award recipients are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program with a composite grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster
On the men's side, Chowan (3.22), King (3.10 GPA), Lees-McRae (3.14), Limestone (3.36 GPA), Mount Olive (3.29 GPA) and Southern Wesleyan (3.45 GPA) were recognized.
As for the women, Belmont Abbey (3.48 GPA), Lees-McRae (3.32 GPA) and Limestone (3.63) received the honor for their off the field work.
