Sergio Tapia, originally from Viña del Mar Chile, comes back to the coaching staff at Southern Wesleyan University after playing his last two seasons at SWU. His freshman year (2014) he played in Rogers State University in Claremore, Oklahoma. Tapia then transferred to Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton Oklahoma. At EOSC, he was selected to the NJCAA All-Region II First Team (2015), and named the Most Valuable Player (2015) during his sophomore year. In 2016, Tapia transferred to Southern Wesleyan where he played in 36 games over two seasons with 31 starts and six goals registered. Prior to playing at the collegiate level Sergio played in Seminario San Rafael High School where they finished as Runner-Up at the State Tournament.
Tapia graduated from SWU with a degree in Physical Education, concentration in Coaching. He also holds a degree in General Education from EOSC.
In regards to his current position at SWU, Tapia says, “I am grateful for the opportunity to come and be part of this program again. I am excited to see and play a role in how the Men’s Soccer Team continues to improve year by year, on and off the field. I am certain that great things are coming.”
