Central, SC - Southern Wesleyan defeated the USC Sumter Fireants in a 4-3 final on Tuesday afternoon.

"We played an extremely tough match today against a strong well coached team! We showed a lot of courage and heart from start to finish. Everyone played a great match and put us in a position to win, however, Leonard Sanders closed everything for us. With all the pressure on him, he showed resolve and confidence to clinch the team match 7-5 in the 3rd set. I'm happy for our team. This is a big confidence boost! I'm looking forward to getting our conference matches started!"

How It Happened

The Warriors went  1-1 in doubles action on Tuesday afternoon. The team of Leonard Sanders and Peter Kovats defeated the team of Leonardo Zancheta and Lucas Rodrigues in a 7-5 final score. Joseph Olatunji and Sarvesh Maria fell to the Fireants team of Israel Rojas and Albert Rocard in a 6-2 final score.

In singles action, Southern Wesleyan went 3-1. Leonard Sanders defeated Israel Rojas in 6-4, 5-7 and 7-5 final scores. Peter Kovats defeated Lucas Rodrigues 7-5 and 6-3. Sarvesh Maria defeated Leonardo Zancheta in 6-2 and 6-3 final scores. Joseph Olatunji defeated Jorjay Paladines 6-4, 4-6 and 6-3. Ben Smith fell to Albert Rocard of USC Sumter in 6-0 and 6-2 final scores.

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will host the Barton Bulldogs on March 22 at 3 p.m. They will then host the Chowan Hawks on March 23 at 1 p.m.
