Conference Carolinas Announces 2018-19 Men's Indoor Track and Field Preseason Poll

High Point, NC – Conference Carolinas announced the 2018-19 Men's Indoor Track and Field Preseason Poll on Friday with the University of Mount Olive Trojans leading the pack.

The University of Mount Olive Trojans took first in the preseason poll with 80 points and eight first place finish votes.  The Trojans finished in first last season after collecting 237 points in the Conference Carolinas Championship Tournament.  Four Trojans received All-American Honors during the NCAA DII Indoor Track and Field National Championship.

Coming in second in the Preseason Poll, the Limestone Saints picked up 73 points and one first place vote.  The Saints finished in second last year with 139 points in the Indoor Conference Carolinas Championship.  Following the Saints, the North Greenville Crusaders had 65 points in the poll.  The Crusaders took fourth last season after collecting 68 points.

In fourth place, the Barton Bulldogs had 63 points in the preseason poll.  The Bulldogs took third last year with 72 points in the championship meet.  They are followed by the Southern Wesleyan Warriors with 47 points in the poll.  The Warriors finished last season in fifth place in the Conference Carolinas Championship with 36 points. 

Southern Wesleyan set several new indoor track and field records during their second season of post season eligibility in Conference Carolinas.  Thomas Williams set a new record in the 800 meters at the Liberty Invite with a time of 1:59.44.  Javon Barmore also set a new school record in the Triple Jump at the ETSU Invite with a distance of 14.34 meters.  Both Williams and Jannai Maxwell were members of the 4x400 Relay team who set a new record with a time of 3:19.98 at the ETSU Invite.  Later at the Conference Carolinas Championship, Maxwell was a part of the Distance Medley Relay team that set a new school record with a time of 11:11.59. 

Rounding out the field in the 2018-19 Men's Indoor Track and Field Preseason Poll are the Lees-McRae Bobcats with 44 points, the King Tornado with 37 points, the Emmanuel Lions with 34 points and the Belmont Abbey Crusaders with 25 points.

Southern Wesleyan will open up the 2018-19 Indoor season on December 1 as the JDL Kickoff Classic in Winston Salem, NC.  The Conference Carolinas Championship meet will be held on February 17.
