How It Happened

Game One

The Warriors were quick to strike in game one of the double header against the Indians. After singling with a bunt, stealing second, and advancing to third on a sacrifice bunt by Becca White, Sara Sweatt was brought home when Lizzie Fela singled up the middle in the top of the first. In the second inning, the Warriors came back and struck even harder. With Alex Oliver on third and Maddie Ward on second, Natalie Johnson doubled to center field and brought both Oliver and Ward home, extending their lead 3-0. The Warriors weren't done yet. Before ending the inning Sweatt came back to bat and tripled to bring Johnson home and gave them a 4-0 lead.  The Indians countered to put themselves on the board in the second and third innings, making it a 4-2 game.

The Warriors, however, were not comfortable with a short lead. In the top of the fifth, after getting hit by a pitch and advancing on a wild pitch, Fela was on second with Alex Oliver up to bat. Oliver hit her first home run of the season to right field and extended their lead over the Indians to 6-2.

This lead still was not enough for the Warriors. In the top of the sixth, Becca White came up to bat with the bases full of Warriors. White hit a single to left field and brought Berrigan home. Fela was up to bat next and hit a home run bringing Sweatt and White home. Later in the inning Tiffany Cathey came up to bat and singled to second base to bring Lexi Thompson home making the game 11-2.  The Indians tried to make a come-back in the 6th and after hitting a home run and a triple which brought one player home to end the inning with the Warriors up 11-4.

Even with a big gap between them and Catawba, Southern Wesleyan was not done fighting. After a single to right field, Natalie Johnson would make it to first to bring Sweatt up to bat. Sweatt hit her first home run of the season to bring Johnson home. Becca White came up to bat next and hit a double to center field. With one on, senior Lizzie Fela hit a 2-run home run to give the Warriors a 15-4 lead over the Indians.  After a hard fight in the bottom the seventh, the Indians put three more runs on the board.  Southern Wesleyan won game one 15-7.
