Central, S.C. – The Warriors fell in a tough match-up against the Barton College Bulldogs. They lost the first game in a final score of 7-2, and then in an intense second game 12-11 in the ninth inning.
In game one, Sara Sweatt and Kali Berrigan led the Warriors with two hits, followed Natalie Johnson with a hit in the loss. Sweatt had the only RBI of the game and led the team in stolen bases, stealing two throughout the game. Josie Edwards pitched for the Warriors, going all seven innings while allowing eight hits and striking out four batters.
Led by Senior Sara Sweatt with three hits, the Warriors a total of 12 hits in the loss. Sweatt was followed by Alex Oliver and Lexi Thompson with two hits apiece. Sweatt tripled and both Lizzie Fela and Natalie Johnson hit a double during the game. Southern Wesleyan's Fela, Oliver and Thompson led the Warriors with two RBIs each. Sweatt led the team with three stolen bases with Becca White following her with two bases stolen in the game. Hunter Hoskins started the game and faced 14 batters while allowing six hits.

How It Happened
The Bulldogs were quick to strike in game one and started the first inning with a 2-0 lead against the Warriors. However, the Warriors countered in the bottom of the first. Sara Sweatt reached on a single and then stole second. Lizzie Fela reached on an error to bring Sweatt home and put the Warriors down 2-1 to the Bulldogs.
Barton lengthened their lead to 4-1 in the second. The Warriors rallied in the bottom of the second inning to close the gap. Kali Berrigan singled through the left sign and then moved to second on a single by Natalie Johnson. Tiffany Cathey grounded out on a sacrifice bunt to advance both runners and put them into scoring position. Sara Sweatt hit a single to send Berrigan home and put the Warriors behind 4-2.
Barton once again extended their lead over the Warriors in the top of the fourth and put the score to 6-2. The Bulldogs gave themselves a 5-run lead in the sixth over the Warriors and ended the game with a 7-2 score.
The Warriors were quick to start game two. Sara Sweatt reached first on a single. After stealing second and advancing to third on a wild pitch, Sweatt scored the first run of the game after advancing home on a wild pitch. After singling and stealing second, Becca White gave the Warriors the second run of the game on a single by Alex Oliver.
The Bulldogs were quick to put themselves ahead and scored eight runs on six hits, making the score 8-2. Southern Wesleyan fought to come back in the second inning when Sweatt hit her second triple of the season to bring Tiffany Cathey home. While Becca White was up to bat, an illegal pitch was thrown which sent Sweatt home and put the score at 8-4.
The Warriors rallied once again in the fourth. With Maddie Ward on third after an error, Natalie Johnson brought Ward home on a ground out to make it an 8-5 game. The Bulldogs took a 9-5 lead in the top of the fourth when they doubled home a run.
Wanting to shorten the gap, the Warriors retaliated in the bottom of the fourth when they put up three runs on the board. After singling and stealing two bases, Sara Sweatt found herself on third with Becca White behind her after walking and stealing a base herself. Lizzie Fela followed with a double, sending both Sweatt and White home. After moving to third on a sacrifice fly by Lexi Thompson, Fela was sent home by Maddie Ward on a single up the middle. The Warriors ended the inning down 9-8 to the Bulldogs.
In the top of the fifth, after a walk with the bases loaded and an error, the Bulldogs extended their lead over the Warriors 11-8. However, the Warriors countered in the bottom of the fifth. Tiffany Cathey led off the inning with a single and then moved on to second when Becca White walked. Lizzie Fela was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Alex Oliver. Oliver hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring Cathey home. A single by Lexi Thompson sent White home to bring the score to 11-10.
Southern Wesleyan tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. Becca White walked to lead off the inning and then advanced to second base on a single to center field by Alex Oliver. Lexi Thompson hit a single to bring White home and move Oliver on to second base and tie the game and take the Bulldogs and Warriors into extra innings. In the top of the tenth, Barton fought back and took a 12-11 victory over the Warriors.
The Warriors are at Varsity Field on Saturday March 18 at 1 and 3 pm when they take on the Mount Olive Trojans. They are home again on Thursday March 23 playing the Limestone Saints at 4 and 6 pm.
