Banner Elk, NC – Southern Wesleyan splits against Lees McRae in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors won game one 5-3 and fell in game two in a final score of 6-3.
Senior Sara Sweatt led the team in hits going 3/3, followed by Maddie Ward with two hits in the contest. Ward led the Warriors in RBI's with a total of three in the game. Both Sweatt and Ward posted home runs in the Warrior victory. Sweatt was the only Warrior who stole a base in the game. Josie Edwards started for the Warriors and pitched a complete game while striking out three and getting her fourth win of the season.
Sweatt once again led the Warriors for game two in hits with a total of three, followed by freshman Becca White with two. Lexi Thompson led the team in RBI's with a total of 2. Hunter Hoskins and Lucy Wolff both pitched for the Warriors allowing a combined 12 hits.

How It Happened
The Warriors struck first in game one when Sara Sweatt singled and then stole second base to get into scoring position. Maddie Ward hit a single that brought Sweatt home to allow the Warriors to take a 1-0 lead. However, the Bobcats were quick to retaliate in the bottom of the second to tie the game 1-1.
The Warriors came back in the top of the fifth when Sara Sweatt hit her third home run of the season. Lizzie Fela was then walked to bring up Maddie Ward. Ward hit her first home run of the season and put the Warriors up 4-1.
The Bobcats tried to come back in the bottom of the fifth to bring the score at 4-2. Southern Wesleyan scored their last run in the top of the sixth when, with the bases full of Warriors, Alex Oliver took a base on balls to walk in the last run for the Warriors. Lees-McRae fought in the bottom of the seventh, but could not pull ahead of Southern Wesleyan as the Warriors took game one in a final score of 5-3
The Bobcars started game two off strong taking a 3-0 lead over the Warriors in the bottom of the first inning. The scoring paused until the top of the fourth when the Warriors put themselves on the board. Sara Sweatt hit a bunt single and then was moved to second on a single by Lizzie Fela. With runners at first and second, Maddie Ward hit a single to left field that brought Sweatt home and made the score 3-1.
The Warriors would strike again in the top of the fifth when Kelly Cooper, Becca White, and Sara Sweatt hit back-to-back-to-back singles to load the bases for Lexi Thompson. Thompson hit a single that brought Cooper home. An error on the Bobcats' shortstop allowed White to make it home and tie the game 3-3.
The Bobcats regained the lead back in the bottom of the fifth when their shortstop singled and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt before making it home on a double, putting them up 4-3.
The would strike again in the bottom of the sixth after Lucy Wolff came in to pitch for Hunter Hoskins. Their catcher hit a single, followed by a home run from their shortstop to give them a 6-3 victory.
The Warriors are in Bristol, TN on Sunday April 2 when they take on the King Tornadoes at 1pm and 3pm in another Conference Carolina doubleheader.
