Coach Adkins Says...

"I was pleased overall with our pitching today. I think when you pitch well, you always have a chance. Unfortunately, we didn't get enough timely hits to score. We have a very young team and we are counting on a lot of young players to produce runs for us. I think when our youngsters gain experience, we will consistently produce. We will learn and grow from this and come out next week and build on the pitching we got today and try to become more complete in all areas of the game."

How It Happened

Game One

The Warriors struck first in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead on a lead-off homerun from freshman Emma Collins. The Lions countered in the top of the second with their own homerun to tie the game. The Warriors posted two hits in the second inning. Lexi Thompson doubled to start the inning and was followed by a single from Kali Berrigan. Unfortunately, the Warriors left two on base. Riley Herdliska led off the bottom of the fourth inning with her first double of the season, but the Warriors were unable to score her.

Mars Hill started off the fifth inning with a single. They were able to score that runner and take a 2-1 lead on a sacrifice fly ball. Grace McGuffin singled for the Warriors late in the seventh inning, but the Lions were able to strike out the next batter to end the game. Mars Hill won the first game 2-1.

Game Two

The Lions started game two with a lead-off double that went on to score that runner and lead 1-0. In the bottom of the first inning, Emma Collins reached on a Mars Hill fielding error. Collins stole second and third and was able to score on a fielder's choice. Lydia Clanton was granted the RBI. Kali Berrigan was able to single through the right side in the bottom of the second inning, but a strong Mars Hill pitcher closed the inning and left Berrigan on base. The Lions scored one in the top of the third to lead 2-1. Delaney Byers posted a hit in the bottom of the third, but was left on base after the next batter drew the third out.

Ashton Martin led the fourth inning off with a single up the middle, but the Warriors were unable to score her. The Lions homered in the top of the fifth and scored on a wild pitch to lead 4-2. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Grace McGuffin lead off with a walk. McGuffin advanced to second on a fielder's choice and advanced to third on an error from the shortstop. The bases were loaded and Becca White drew a walk and was able to score McGuffin and gain an RBI. Mars Hill scored again in the top of the sixth inning and went on to win the game 5-2.
