Bristol, TN – Southern Wesleyan drops both games to the King Tornado in the first road conference contest of the season in 1-0 and 8-5 final scores.
Southern Wesleyan posted five hits in the loss to the Tornado. Lydia Clanton led the team with three hits. She was followed by Kali Berrigan and Emma Collins with one hit each. Clanton posted a triple in the contest and Collins added a double to her resume. Southern Wesleyan boasted nine strikeouts, seven coming from starting pitcher, Ashton Martin. Martin went five innings on the mound and Delanie Laudenbacher came in to contribute two more strikeouts and pitch the last two innings.
The Warriors had seven hits in game two on Saturday evening. Ashton Martin, Emma Collins and Addie Nugent each contributed two hits apiece. Lexi Thompson had one hit. Lydia Clanton drew one walk. Martin led the team with two RBIs. Thompson and Nugent each had one RBI. Martin had two solo homeruns and Nugent posted her first double of the season. Emma Collins had the lone stolen base for the Warriors. Southern Wesleyan posted seven strikeouts in the loss. Five strikeouts came from starting pitcher, Emma Collins, and two came from relief pitcher, Delanie Laudenbacher.

How It Happened
The Tornado scored the only run of the contest in the bottom of the 2nd inning to give them an early 1-0 lead. King was able to hold on to that lead and win game one.
Ashton Martin pitched five innings for the Warriors, posting seven strikeouts in the game.
King took the early lead in the bottom of the first inning, adding two runs.
The Warriors countered in the top of the second with a lead-off home run from Ashton Martin to put Southern Wesleyan on the board, trailing 2-1.
In the bottom of the third, the Tornado added one more run to lead 3-1.
Southern Wesleyan added another run in the top of the fourth inning with another solo home run from Martin to put the Warriors trailing only 3-2. The Tornado retaliated with another run in the bottom of the fourth to increase their lead to 4-2.
Emma Collins led-off the top of the fifth with a single. Addie Nugent followed with a single to advance Collins to third base. Although Nugent got thrown out at second base, Collins was able to score and put the Warriors down 4-3. The Tornado added another one in the bottom of the fifth to lead 5-3.
In the bottom of the 6th inning, King added three more runs to increase their lead to 8-3.
Collins led-off the top of the seventh inning with a single and stole second and third base. Lexi Thompson then singled and scored Collins. Micah Williams came in to run for Thompson. Nugent then doubled to score Williams before the final out of the game. The Tornado went on to win the game 8-5.
Southern Wesleyan will travel to Banner Elk, NC to take on the Lees-McRae Bobcats on March 17 at 1 and 3 p.m. They will then travel to Due West, SC to take on the Flying Fleet on March 20 at 1 and 3 p.m.
