Central, SC - Southern Wesleyan picks up their fifth straight conference win with a sweep of the Barton Bulldogs on Friday evening in 7-6 and 3-2 final scores.
The Warriors posted nine hits in the win over the Barton Bulldogs. Megan New, Lydia Clanton and Addie Nugent led the team with two hits apiece. Taylor Le, Delaney Byers and Lexi Thompson each had one hit. Clanton picked up three RBIs, while New grabbed two and Byers and Thompson claimed one apiece. Le drew the lone walk. New had two doubles in the win and Clanton followed with one. Nugent and Micah Williams each had a stolen base. Southern Wesleyan posted seven strikeouts, five coming from starting pitcher, Delanie Laudenbacher and two coming from relief pitcher, Emma Collins. Laudenbacher picked up the win and went six innings. Collins was rewarded the save and pitched the seventh inning.
In the game two victory, Southern Wesleyan tallied nine hits. Kali Berrigan, Lydia Clanton and Megan New each had two hits to led the team. Addie Nugent, Delaney Byers and Emma Collins each had one hit. Byers, Clanton and Berrigan each had one RBI and Grace McGuffin and Nugent each drew walks. Berrigan led the team with her first career home run. Collins collected her first career triple, while Clanton had two doubles and Byers followed with one double. Byers had the lone stolen base. Southern Wesleyan had two strikeouts in the win, both coming from starting pitcher, Ashton Martin. Martin pitched the complete game for the Warriors.

"I thought that we definitely could have done some things better. But what stands out to me is the way we responded to adversity today in a good way. Our players really just pulled through in clutch moments and picked one another up. Also, you have to give Barton credit for fighting like they did. It was two very entertaining softball games."
How It Happened
The Warriors showed that they came to play early in game one against the Barton Bulldogs. Taylor Le led-off with a walk and advanced to second on a single from Addie Nugent. Delaney Byers followed with a ground ball to the pitcher and the Bulldogs pitcher attempted to throw Le out at third, but a throwing error allowed Le to score and Nugent advanced to third while Byers took second base. Lydia Clanton then doubled deep into right field to score Nugent and Byers. Megan New then delivered a double over the center fielder's head and scored Clanton to give the Warriors a 4-0 lead after the first inning.
In the second inning, Southern Wesleyan continued to deliver offensively. Le singled, but was thrown out on the fielder's choice off of Nugent's hit. Nugent took first base and advanced to second on a single from Byers. Clanton followed with a single of her own to score Nugent and move Byers to second. The bats stayed hot as Lexi Thompson came up with her first single of the game to score Byers and give the Warriors a comfortable 6-0 lead going into the third inning.
The Bulldogs were able to pick up two runs in the top of the third inning to trail 6-2.
Barton tacked on four runs in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game at 6-6. In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Warriors regained the lead. Clanton was hit by a pitch to take first base. Thompson grounded out to the shortshop, but advanced Clanton to second base. New doubled deep to center field and Clanton was able to score and put the Warriors back on top, leading 7-6.
Southern Wesleyan went on to win game one 7-6.
The Bulldogs struck first in game two with a lead-off home run to lead 1-0. The Warriors countered in the bottom of the inning to tie the game. Addie Nugent singled and scored after Delaney Byers doubled, but Byers was thrown out at third. The Warriors tied the game at 1-1.
Kali Berrigan collected her first career home run in the bottom of the second to put the Warriors on top 2-1.
In the fifth inning the Bulldogs added another run to tie up game two.
When it came down to the bottom of the seventh inning, Delaney Byers took first on a hit by pitch. Byers then stole second and went on to score as Clanton doubled to give the Warriors the walk-off win over Barton, 3-2.
Southern Wesleyan will host the Mount Olive Trojans on March 30 at 1 and 3 p.m. They will then host the Limestone Saints on April 3 at 5 and 7 p.m.
