Greenville, SC - The NCCAA All-South Region Team was announced earlier this week with four Warriors receiving honors. Lydia Clanton, Ashton Martin, Delaney Byers and Addie Nugent all received honors on the South Region Team.
"First and foremost, to God be all the glory, through his son, Jesus Christ," said Head Softball Coach Coy Adkins. "What he has done in this program is nothing short of amazing. For our young women, I could not be prouder. These accolades show that our peers in the sport recognize the talents of our players. It's both humbling and gratifying at the same time. You're just really joyful that all of the hard work is coming to fruition."
In her first year in the Warrior blue, Lydia Clanton led Southern Wesleyan with a overall .398 batting average and .532 on base percentage. The freshman from Mississippi delivered 43 hits over 108 at bats including 10 doubles, two triples and seven home runs to give her a .722 slugging percentage. She was also steady in the field for the Warriors, as Clanton had 73 putouts and 42 assists, including five double plays, to give her a .966 fielding percentage.
Ashton Martin joined Clanton on the team. In her first year on the mound for the Warriors, Martin pitched 122 innings while picking up an 11-8 record. She struck out 89 batters while posting a 2.52 ERA. However, Martin's talent did not stay on the mound as she hit two doubles and four home runs over 89 at bats, driving in 11 runs.
The third Warrior to be named to the All-Region team is outfielder Addie Nugent. A sophomore from Rockledge, Florida, Nugent appeared in 27 games for the Warriors. Over 71 at bats, she recorded 23 hits including three doubles, a triple and two home runs to bring in 10 RBIs and give her a .324 batting average.
The final Warrior to be named to the team is freshman Delaney Byers. Byers, a shortstop out of Florida, posted a .275 batting average in her first year as a Warrior. She recorded 33 hits including 11 doubles, a triple and three home runs to bring in 25 runs. The freshman continued to impress as she stole eight bases for Southern Wesleyan. In the field, Byers posted a .920 fielding percentage while assisting with four double plays.
