Central, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan fell to North Greenville University in Conference Carolinas action in a final score of 68-66.
Tatiana Manuel led the team in scoring with 15 points in the loss. She was followed by Tomi Sanchez (13), Kristen Smith (11), and Aneysa Williams (10). Southern Wesleyan posted a field goal percentage of 34.4% while NGU had 37.5%. There were 13 assists made by the Warriors. Tatiyana Mahone, Cayse Branyon, and Sanchez all led with three apiece.
Manuel posted 13 rebounds. Followed by Mahone and Branyon with four apiece. The Warriors made 36 total rebounds as a team in the loss. Manuel had five blocks against the Crusaders.
Williams and Kasey Howard each had two steals and the Warriors had 12 turnovers in the contest.

How It Happened
North Greenville scored first in the conference matchup on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors responded with a jump shot by Tatiyana Mahone. Both teams rallied back and forth, but the Warriors took the lead 10-8 with a layup from Kasey Howard. The Warriors maintained the lead in the first quarter as the Crusaders pulled it within one at 15-14.
The Warriors struck first in the second quarter with a 3-pointer by Kristen Smith. The Crusaders responded with a 3-pointer from Jessica Garlington and two free throws from Cameron Carter to take the lead. The Crusaders slowly gained momentum to increase their lead to 37-32 at the half.
The second half started with made free throws from Tatiana Manuel and put the Warriors within three of the Crusaders. North Greenville responded with 3-pointers from Carter and Karen Donehew. Shots from Manuel and Tomi Sanchez with freebies from Aneysa Williams were not enough as the Crusaders still led 45-41. With back-to-back jump shots from Sanchez and a 3-pointer from Cayse Branyon to tie the game at 50. North Greenville hit two shots to come out of the third quarter on top 54-50.
The Crusaders struck first in the fourth quarter with a 3-pointer. Manuel responded with two free throws and a layup to keep the Warriors within five of the Crusaders. Both teams fought hard, but even free throws from Williams and Branyon weren't enough before North Greenville came out on top 68-66.
The Warriors will return to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium on Tuesday, January 24 to take on Pfeiffer at 5:30 p.m. They will remain at home to take on Mount Olive on January 27 and Barton on January 28.
