Southern Wesleyan Falls To Barton

Central, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Barton Bulldogs in a 72-43 final score on Monday evening.

Tatiyana Mahone and Aneysa Williams led the Warriors in the loss with nine points apiece. Mahone went on to lead the team with four assists. Shawndre' Young led the Warriors with 2 steals and Mahone boasted one steal in the loss. Southern Wesleyan posted 33 rebounds and was led by Mahone with seven.

"Tough night for us all around.  We were ineffective offensively, and overall, I was disappointed with how we showed up to play.  It falls on me to get us prepared and we will continue to work to maintain a level of competitive consistency.  I love our team.  We have shown we can compete and win against teams, now we just have to prove in every time out."


How It Happened

The Warriors scored first with a free throw from Tiana Sherman, but the Bulldogs quickly countered with a layup and free throw from Alex Kimble to lead 3-1 early in the first quarter. Tatiyana Mahone and Noelle Van Zadelhoff each made layups to narrow the Bulldogs lead to 15-6. Barton continued to increase their lead despite a late shot from Shawndre' Young to make the score 19-8.

The Bulldogs came out scoring back-to-back layups in the second quarter before a free throw from Aneysa Williams gave the Warriors their first point of the second quarter. The Warriors continued to fight with shots from Kallie Hall and Williams to narrow the Bulldogs lead to 40-16 at the half.

Barton struck first in the third quarter, making several shots before Tatiyana Mahone could answer with a jump shot to make the score 48-18. Shawndre' Young and Noelle Van Zadelhoff followed Mahone with jump shots to add two baskets to the Warriors score. Aneysa Williams hit two 3-pointers and Denisha Hall made one to narrow the lead to 66-35 going into the fourth quarter.

The Bulldogs answered quickly in the fourth, but Kallie Hall countered with a jump shot less than a minute into the final quarter. Barton continued to increase their lead although Tatiyana Mahone nailed back-to-back shots. Despite the late layup from Noelle Van Zadelhoff, the Bulldogs were able to hold the Warriors off with a 72-43 final.


What's Next

The Warriors will remain at home to take on the Belmont Abbey Crusaders on January 20 at 2 p.m. and will then hit the road to take on Mount Olive on January 23 and Converse on January 26.
