Wilson, NC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Barton College Bulldogs in an 83-62 final on Saturday afternoon.
Southern Wesleyan posted a 32.4% field goal percentage and shot 30% at the three point line in the loss to Barton. Tatiyana Mahone led the team with 16 points. Mahone was followed by Breanna Richardson with 11 points. Three Warriors posted two assists in the loss.
The Warriors posted 38 rebounds with Tatiyana Mahone posting 10 to give her a double-double in the loss to Barton. Mahone and Tanayja Williams led the team with two steals each. Noelle Van Zadelhoff led the team with three blocks.

How It Happened
The Barton Bulldogs jumped out first in the debate on a three point jump shot by Alex Kimble. The Warriors countered with a layup by Jessica Sparks to make the score 2-3. A three point shot by Aneysa Williams and free throws by Breanna Richardson allowed the Warriors to take a 9-8 lead over the Bulldogs. The lead was short lived as a layup by Kianna Wynn put the Bulldogs up 10-9. A layup by Richardson allowed the Warriors to come to 11-16 behind the Bulldogs.
Barton attacked first in the second quarter on a jump shot by Karimah Dean to take a 21-13 point lead. Denisha Hall missed a layup, but Noelle Van Zadelhoff was there to tip the ball into the basket to put the Warriors down 15-21. The Bulldogs lengthened their lead to ten points on back-to-back shots by Dinah Neal. Tatiyana Mahone put up a layup on a pass from Breanna Richardson to keep the Warriors within ten points of the Bulldogs. Richardson put up a layup to put the Warriors down 26-34 at the half.
Southern Wesleyan kicked off the second half with a layup by Noelle Van Zadelhoff to bring the score to 28-34. Barton countered to take an eleven point lead over the Warriors on a three point shot by Alex Kimble. The Bulldogs pressured to take a twenty point lead with just over six minutes left in the third quarter of play. Kasey Howard and Tatiyana Mahone made layups to keep Southern Wesleyan within twenty points of Barton.

With just over four minutes left to play, Breanna Richardson made a three point jump shot to make the score 78-54. In a final push with just under two minutes to play, Tanayja Williams and Taylor Myles made layups to put the Warriors to within twenty points of the Bulldogs. Barton won in an 83-62 final score.
Southern Wesleyan will return to their home court of Historic Tysinger Gymnasium on February 6 as they take on the Lees-McRae Bobcats at 5:30 p.m. They will then travel to King to take on the Tornado on February 10 at 2 p.m.
