Warriors Fall To Lions

Franklin Springs, GA – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Emmanuel College Lions in an 88-68 final score on Saturday afternoon.

The Warriors shot 37.1% from the field and went 46.2% at the three point line.  Four Warriors posted double digits in the loss to the Lions.  Tatiyana Mahone led the Warriors with 19 points scored.  Aneysa Williams posted 15, Jessica Sparks posted 13 and Breanna Richardson finished up the four Warriors with double digits with 10.  Richardson went on to lead the team with five assists.  She was followed by Shawndre' Young with four assists.

Southern Wesleyan had 31 rebounds in the game.  Tatiyana Mahone led the team with seven rebounds.  She was followed by three with six rebounds.  Noelle van Zadelhoff posted the lone block for the Warriors.  Jessica Sparks had five steals during the game.

How It Happened

Emmanuel jumped out with a 2-0 lead, but a three point shot by Jessica Sparks allowed the Warriors to take a 3-2 point lead.  A three point shot by Aneysa Williams allowed Southern Wesleyan to push their lead to 6-2.  The Lions countered, but a jump shot by Tatiyana Mahone allowed the Warriors to maintain a three point lead and make the score 8-5.  Emmanuel pushed ahead to take the lead on a layup by Emily Dreslinski to make the score 12-11.  Free throws by Shawndre' Young and Denisha Hall allowed the Warriors to come to 18-24 behind the Lions.

A layup by Emily Dreslilnski kicked the second quarter off for the Lions to make the score 26-18.  Jessica Sparks put up a three point shot to put Southern Wesleyan down 21-26.  Breanna Richardson made back-to-back free throws to put the Warriors down four.  Emmanuel broke away to take a 35-26 point lead on a three point shot by Taylor Delasbour.  Southern Wesleyan fought back with a three point shot by Aneysa Williams to make the score 31-39.  At the half, Emmanuel was in the lead 45-33.

Emmanuel kicked off the third quarter with a free throw, but Southern Wesleyan countered with a jump shot by Tatiyana Mahone to put the Warriors down 35-46.  Back-to-back shots by Breanna Richardson and Mahone allowed the Warriors to cut the Lions lead to 41-50.  A three point shot by Aneysa Williams put the Warriors down 44-52.  Shots by Richardson and Shawdre' Young allowed the Warriors to come within seven.

The Lions took a twelve point lead to kick off the fourth quarter on a layup by Dreslilnski.  A jump shot by Noelle van Zadelhoff put the Warriors to within ten and make the score 58-68.  Jessica Sparks made a layup and Breanna Richardson made free throws to put the Warriors behind the Lions 62-71.  Emmanuel continued to pressure on the court to take an 81-62 point advantage.  Layups by Tatiyana Mahone put the Warriors down 68-83.  Emmanuel won the game 88-68.

 

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will remain on the road on February 20 as they take on the Erskine College Flying Fleet at 5:30 p.m.  They will then host the final home game of the season on February 23 as they take on the North Greenville Crusaders at 5:30 p.m.
