Belmont, NC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Belmont Abbey Crusaders in a 99-53 final on Saturday afternoon.
The Warriors shot 35% from the field and 33.3% from the three point line in the loss to the Crusaders on Saturday. Lisana Burnett and Iva Krstevska led the Warriors with 11 points each. Southern Wesleyan had 35 rebounds in the loss with Lonesha Lee and Burnett each posting seven rebounds. Three Warriors led the team with two assists apiece. Burnett went on to lead the team with three steals. Emily Waters recorded two of the three blocks during the loss.

How It Happened
The Belmont Abbey struck early as they made free throws to take a 3-0 point lead. The Warriors would not be threatened as Iva Krstevska made a three point shot to put Southern Wesleyan down 8-4. The Crusaders continued to push ahead to take an 11-4 point advantage, but a second three point shot by Krstevska put the Warriors within four. Despite several three point shots by the Crusaders, the Warriors kept the game close as a three point basketball by Lisana Burnett put the Warriors down 12-17. A jump shot by Denisha Hall put the Warriors down just one point to the Crusaders and make the score 16-17.
The Crusaders continued to pressure the Warriors as they extended their lead to 23-16. A breakaway layup by Jessica Sparks allowed the Warriors to come to five behind Belmont Abbey. Back-to-back jump shots by Breanna Richardson and Sparks allowed the Warriors to come within six points and made the score 28-22. Belmont Abbey pulled away on a three point shot by Irelynn Davisson to give them a ten point advantage over Southern Wesleyan. The Crusaders continued to pull away as a three point shot by Davisson put them on top 50-27 at halftime.
Belmont Abbey scored first in the third quarter on a three point shot by Caroline Tomey, but the Warriors countered with a jump shot by Emily Waters and three point shot by Iva Krstevska to put Southern Wesleyan down 53-32. A jump shot by Breanna Richardson made the score 34-56. Despite baskets by Krstevska and Lisana Burnett, the Crusaders remained on top with a layup by Manuela Fungate to make the score 41-66.
The Crusaders continued to push ahead on a layup by Brittany Autry to make the score 79-41. A three point shot by Meredith Ray and jump shot by Emily Waters allowed the Warriors to come to 46-79 behind Belmont Abbey. Belmont Abbey pressured the Warriors defense, getting around to score two more layups by Autry and Alexis Melville to give them an 83-46 point advantage. The Crusaders went on to win the game 99-53.
Southern Wesleyan will return to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium on December 8 as they host Auburn Montgomery at 3 p.m. They will then continue Conference Carolinas action as they travel to Banner Elk, NC to take on the Lees-McRae Bobcats on December 12 at 5:30 p.m.
