Coach Davis says…

"We failed to be detailed and disciplined today on the defensive end of the court, which put us in some trouble in the first half.  As a team, we have to be better balanced when competing against teams like Mount Olive.  Coach Lee's team did a great job of executing.  Mount Olive had the want to on both ends of the court rebounding wise.  I thought our defense in the half-court was solid until the shot went up."

How It Happened

The University of Mount Olive Trojans broke out early with a layup by Jada Bacchus, however the Warriors quickly countered with a layup by Iva Krstevska to tie the game.  A layup by Breanna Richardson put the Warriors on top 6-4, and then a three point shot by Krstevska allowed them to increase their lead to 9-5.  Southern Wesleyan continued to pull ahead as Richardson and Jessica Sparks put the ball in the net to give them a 13-5 point lead.

Southern Wesleyan continued to challenge Mount Olive in the second quarter as Jessica Sparks sunk a three point shot to put the Warriors ahead 23-11.  The Trojans challenged to come within eight of the Warriors on shots by Azariah Fields and Felecity Havens.  The Warriors fought back as Iva Krstevska made a three point shot to allow Southern Wesleyan to maintain an eight point lead and make the score 30-22.  However, free throws allowed the Trojans to pass the Warriors and give them a 38-36 point advantage at half.

Mount Olive charged ahead in the third quarter as Kelly Post made a layup, but the Warriors challenged back on a layup by Emily Waters to put them down 38-40.  Southern Wesleyan continued to keep the game close as Breanna Richardson made a layup to make the score 44-43 in favor of the visiting Trojans.  Mount Olive continued to push ahead to lead 51-43 on a three point shot by Felecity Havens.  However, a three point shot by Richardson kept the Warriors within ten points of the Trojans.

Southern Wesleyan continued to pressure Mount Olive in the final quarter of play as Breanna Richardson made a three point shot to keep the Warriors within 10-points and make the score 62-52.  The Warriors edged closer to the Trojans as Iva Krstevska made a layup and Richardson sunk another three point shot to make the score 67-61.  Despite a three point jump shot by Jessica Sparks, the Trojans won the game 80-71.
