Warriors Unable to Pass Bulldogs

Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Barton Bulldogs in an 82-50 final score on Saturday afternoon.

The Warriors shot 33.9% from the field in the loss to the Bulldogs.  Lisana Burnett led the team with 10 points, while Breanna Richardson and Denisha Hall followed with nine points each.  Lonesha Lee led the team with two assists.  Southern Wesleyan recorded 29 rebounds with Burnett leading the team with seven.  KatyBeth Rentz and Meredith Ray recorded the lone steals of the game for the Warriors, while Burnett posted the lone block.

How It Happened

The Bulldogs jumped out early as Alexa Roberson hit a three point shot and Akira Wiggins made a layup to take a 5-0 lead.  Emily Waters sunk a jump shot after four minutes of play to put the Warriors on the board down 9-3 to the Bulldogs.

Southern Wesleyan kicked off the second quarter with a jump shot by Denisha Hall to allow the Warriors to cut Barton's lead to 25-10.  Despite baskets by Carmen Richardson and Dinah Neal, the Warriors continued to fight with a layup by Breanna Richardson.

The Warriors kicked off the third quarter with back-to-back layups by Breanna Richardson and Iva Krstevska to put them down 19-45 to the Bulldogs.  Barton pressed on with baskets by Shanika Peterkin, but the Warriors would not be halted as Emily Waters and Krstevska put up layups.  The Bulldogs took a thirty point lead on a layup by Kianna Wynn.

Down thirty, Southern Wesleyan continued to fight as Lisana Burnett made a layup to make the score 63-35.  Three point baskets by Breanna Richardson and Shawndre' Young put the Warriors down 41-67.  The Bulldogs went on to win the game 82-50.

 

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will next take on the Limestone on January 8 at 5:30 p.m. in Historic Tysinger Gymnasium.  They will remain at home on January 12 as they host the Belmont Abbey Crusaders at 2 p.m.
