Due West, SC – Southern Wesleyan defeated the Erskine Flying Fleet in a 64-59 final score on Saturday afternoon.
The Warriors shot 45.8% from the field in the victory with four Warriors recording double digits. Emily Waters led the team with 16 points. Waters was closely followed by Breanna Richardson with 15 points, and Lisana Burnett and Denisha Hall with 10 points apiece. Iva Krstevska led the Warriors with five of the nine assists of the afternoon.
Southern Wesleyan had 33 rebounds with Lisana Burnett leading the team with seven. Burnett was followed by Emily Waters with five. The Warriors had 14 steals with Burnett leading the team with five. Burnett was followed by Iva Krstevska with three. Emily Waters had the lone block of the afternoon.

How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan struck first as Emily Waters made a layup and then a three point basket by Lisana Burnett gave the Warriors a 5-2 point advantage over the Flying Fleet. The Warriors extended their lead to 10-2 on a layups by Breanna Richardson and Burnett before a layup by Alexis Scott allowed Erskine to cut the Warriors lead to 10-4.
Erskine took the first jump shot of the second quarter as Alexis Sales sunk a basket to put the Flying Fleet down 14-11. A 3-point shot by Jessica Sparks allowed Southern Wesleyan to take a 17-11 point lead. Erskine continued to challenge, but baskets by Denisha Hall and Lisana Burnett allowed Southern Wesleyan to maintain the advantage. The Warriors led 30-22 at the half.
The Flying Fleet attacked first in the third quarter as Alexis Scott made a layup to put them down 30-24. Jump shots by Jessica Sparks and Breanna Richardson allowed the Warriors to maintain a six point lead over Erskine. However, back-to-back layups by Scott put the Flying Fleet down two points with six minutes remaining in the third quarter. The Flying Fleet battled back to tie the game on a jump shot by Megan Davis, but a basket by Denisha Hall allowed the Warriors to take a 40-38 point lead.
Down by one, Breanna Richardson made back-to-back free throws to kick off the final quarter to put the Warriors ahead 50-49. However, the Flying Fleet took the lead on baskets by Alexis Scott and Kelsey Felks. The Warriors continued to push ahead as Iva Krstevska and Richardson made jump shots to put Southern Wesleyan on top 59-55. Southern Wesleyan went on to win the game 64-59.
Southern Wesleyan will return to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium on February 20 as they host the Emmanuel Lions at 5:30 p.m. They will remain at home as they take on the King Tornado for Senior Night on February 26 at 5:30 p.m.
