Southern Wesleyan Falls in Close Game to Emmanuel

Central, SC - Southern Wesleyan fell to the Emmanuel Lions in a 79-76 final score on Wednesday night.

The Warriors shot 44.4% from the field in the loss. Iva Krstevska led the Warriors with 19 points.  Krstevska was followed by Emily Waters with 14 points and Lisana Burnett with 13 points.  Krstevska led the Warriors with four of the 12 assists.  She was followed by Lonesha Lee with three.

Southern Wesleyan posted 34 rebounds in the loss.  Lisana Burnett led the team with seven rebounds.  She was followed by Iva Krstevska with six.  Jessica Sparks had the lone block and Burnett led the Warriors with three of the 11 steals.

How It Happened

The Lions took an early lead, but a layup by Jessica Sparks allowed the Warriors to tie the game 2-2.  Emmanuel pushed ahead with a three point shot by Hanna Grogan, but a jump shot by Breanna Richardson kept the Warriors within one.  The Lions went on an 11-point run before a layup by Lisana Burnett put the Warriors down 17-6.

Southern Wesleyan kicked off the second quarter with back-to-back layups by Emily Waters to put the Warriors down 26-14.  A three point jump shot by Shawndre' Young put the Warriors within 12 points of the Lions.  Despite layups by Waters and Breanna Richardson, the Warriors trailed the Lions 39-27 at the half.

A 3-point basket by Hanna Grogan kicked off the third quarter for the Lions, but a layup by Breanna Richardson allowed the Warriors to stay 42-29 behind Emmanuel.  Southern Wesleyan pressured Emmanuel as Lisana Burnett sunk a 3-point shot and a layup to put the Warriors down nine points.

The Warriors jumped out early in the fourth quarter as Jessica Sparks made a three point basket to put the Warriors within four points of the Lions.  Emmanuel extended their lead to 68-52, but Southern Wesleyan fought back with free throws by Tanajya Williams and Shawndre' Young, and a layup by Lisana BurnettIva Krstevska sunk a 3-point basket and then back-to-back layups by Emily Waters and Sparks put the Warriors down 74-72.  The Lions went on to win the game 79-76.

Southern Wesleyan will host their last regular season game on February 26 at 5:30 as they recognize their seniors and host the King Tornado.
