Derek Forrester will begin his first year as the assistant women’s basketball coach at Southern Wesleyan University during the 2017-2018 season. Derek currently serves as an adjunct faculty member at Southern Wesleyan and brings 16 years of coaching experience to the sideline.
Coach Forrester served as the junior varsity boy’s basketball coach at Liberty High School from 1995-1997. Following Liberty, Derek was the athletic director at Oconee Christian Academy for four years, while also coaching the boy’s basketball program and teaching at the academy. The team played in the Upper State Semifinal round in the team’s fourth year of existence.
Derek also spent time at Belton-Honea Path High School from 2003-2010 as the head coach of the junior varsity program, which won the first region championship in school history. He also assisted the varsity boy’s basketball team during this time.
Coach Forrester is owner of Shooting Star Basketball and he also has his own professional counseling business. He has been married to his wife Lisa for 19 years and has three children – Kayla (14), Shane (13) and Marissa (11). He is also an elder at The Mount Church in Clemson, SC, where he has been a member since 1995.
