Warriors Drop Game to Bulldogs

Seneca, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Barton Bulldogs in a 13-3 final score on Saturday afternoon.

The Warriors posted 14 shots and nine shots on goal in the loss to the Bulldogs.  Latia Santos led the team with six shots and three shots on goal.  Santos was followed by Amy Pfefferkorn with four shots and two shots on goal, and Tabitha Beecher with two shots on goal.  Latia Santos recorded all three of the Warriors goals.  The Warriors posted 19 groundballs in the loss with Kaeleigh McDaniel leading the team with five.  She was followed by Jairy Sandoval with four.  The Warriors had 12 caused turnovers with Jairy Sandoval, Kelsey Hawkins and Jesse Soles leading the team with two caused turnovers each.  Southern Wesleyan won 10 draw controls in the loss.  Kaeleigh McDaniel played all 60 minutes in goal for the Warriors and recorded 15 saves.

How It Happened

The Bulldogs struck first as Angelina Scarpa and Alyssa Torres scored back-to-back goals to put Barton on top 2-0.  Barton continued to push ahead, taking a 4-0 lead over Southern Wesleyan.  The Warriors continued to challenge as Tabitha Beecher and Jocelyn Cosgrove took shots on goal, but the Bulldogs kept the balls away from the net.  The Warriors gained control of the ball as Jairy Sandoval picked up a ground ball and passed it off to Latia Santos to score and put the Warriors down 8-1 at half.

Southern Wesleyan struck first in the second half as Latia Santos was fouled in the eight meter to earn her a chance to take a free positon shot.  Santos got the ball around Felicity Borge to put the Warriors down 8-2.  The Warriors to continue to challenge as Santos and Taylor Hames put up shots, but the Bulldogs defense kept the Warriors down.  Barton extended their lead with goals by Scarpa and Lydia Hulshizer.  Despite a third goal by Santos, the Bulldogs won the game in a 13-3 final score.


What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will next host the Ohio Valley Fighting Scots on March 12.  They will then hit the road to Franklin Springs, GA as they take on the Emmanuel Lions on March 14 at 4 p.m.
