Southern Wesleyan Drops Final Regular Season Game Against Belmont Abbey

Belmont, NC – Southern Wesleyan dropped their final regular season game to the Belmont Abbey Crusaders in an 18-2 final score.

The Warriors had 12 shots and five shots on goal during the game.  Latia Santos led the team with five shots and one shot on goal.  She was followed Skylar Taylor and Amy Pfefferkorn each with two shots and one shot on goal.  Skylar Taylor and Jocelyn Cosgrove each had one goal for the Warriors, and Tabitha Beecher had the lone assist of the evening.

Southern Wesleyan recorded 14 groundballs during the game with Kaeleigh McDaniel leading the team with eight.  She was followed by Skylar Taylor and Tabitha Beecher with two groundballs each.  The Warriors had six draw controls with Latia Santos leading the team with three.  Southern Wesleyan caused two turnovers during the game with Jairy Sandoval and Jesse Soles each causing one turnover apiece.  Kaeleigh McDaniel recorded 15 saves in the loss to the Crusaders.

How It Happened

Southern Wesleyan won the first draw control of the game, however the Crusaders regained the ball to score the first goal of the game as Kylie Eastman score to give Belmont Abbey a 1-0 lead.  They pushed to a 5-0 lead with just over 26 minutes still to play.  The Crusaders continued to pressure, but the Warriors defense and Kaeleigh McDaniel stayed strong to keep Belmont Abbey from extending their lead.  Belmont Abbey continued to push ahead on back-to-back goals to give them a 7-0 lead.  The Crusaders continued to push ahead to take a 12-0 lead at the half.

Southern Wesleyan continued to pressure the Belmont Abbey Crusaders defense as Latia Santos and Amy Pfefferkorn took shots on goal.  However the Crusaders kept the Warriors off the board until Tabitha Beecher passed the ball up to Skylar Taylor who put it in the cage to put the Warriors down 12-1.  The Crusaders continued to extend their lead before Jocelyn Cosgrove got around the Belmont Abbey defense to put the Warriors down 16-2.  Belmont Abbey went on to win 18-2.

This will conclude the regular season play for the Warriors, they will wait to determine who they will play in Conference Carolinas postseason.
