Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan took down the Lees-McRae Bobcats in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday afternoon in double overtime to win 4-3.
The Warriors put up 18 shots and nine shots on goal in the double overtime victory. Ashely Romanowski and Rachel Curtis each put up four shots. Curtis led the team with three shots on goal while Romanowski followed with two shots on goal. Romanowski scored two goals in the win, while Curtis and Joy Namyst each had one goal. Curtis went on to have the lone assist of the afternoon. Jen Golio played the whole game in goal for the Warriors and made eight saves.

How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan put the pressure early in the game against the Lees-McRae Bobcats. Ashley Romanowski passed the ball up to Rachel Curtis who drove the ball into the net to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead. The Bobcats put the pressure on the Warriors, but Southern Wesleyan held their ground. Curtis passed the ball up to Romanowski who got it around the Bobcat goalkeeper to lead 2-0. The Warriors had several more attacks on the goal, but the score remained 2-0 at the half.
Lees-McRae put the pressure on the Warriors in the second half, taking several shots on goal, but Southern Wesleyan's defense held their ground to keep the ball from the net. Emily Corriher and Madison Woolbert each took shots on goal, but the Bobcats and goalkeeper Alexis Feely kept the ball from going in. The Warriors continued to put on the pressure as Corriher passed the ball to Payton Woolbert who sent the boy to Joy Namyst. Namyst drove the ball around the defense and put the ball into the net and give Southern Wesleyan a 3-0 lead. The Bobcats countered with their first goal of the season by Autumn Esposito to make the score 3-1. Lees-McRae shortened the Warriors lead to 3-2 on a goal by Katie Jo Daniels. The Bobcats continued to pressure and a goal by Esposito tied the game at three to force overtime.
The Bobcats put the pressure on the Warriors in the first overtime with several shots, but Jen Golio kept the ball from reaching the net. Rachel Curtis rushed the ball into the net, but Alexis Feely got to the ball to keep Curtis from getting her second goal of the game. The Warriors defense kept the Bobcats attacks from reaching the net.
The Warriors would not be silenced and pressured the Bobcats back in the second overtime period of play. Ashley Romanowski took the ball down the field and took a shot, but Alexis Feely jumped in front to keep the ball from going in. However, Romanowski continued to pressure and shot again and the ball met the net to give the Warriors a 4-3 victory.
Southern Wesleyan will next travel to Wilson, NC to take on the Barton Bulldogs on September 15 at 1:30 p.m. They will then return to Childs Field on September 19 to take on the Erskine College Flying Fleet at 5 p.m.
