Murfreesboro, NC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Chowan Hawks in a 5-1 final on Saturday afternoon.
The Warriors recorded 10 shots and six shots on goal with junior Rachel Curtis leading the team with four shots and three shots on goal. Curtis recorded the lone goal in the loss. Jen Golio and Caitlynn Nixon shared time in goal for Southern Wesleyan. Golio recorded four saves in the loss.

How It Happened
The Warriors challenged early in the match-up against the Hawks on a shot by Joy Namyst that went wide, however Chowan countered with several shots on goal. The Hawks took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Sabrina Henderson. They lengthened their lead to 3-0 on back-to-back goals by Henderson and Carolina Lucci. The Warriors countered just before half with a goal by Rachel Curtis to make the score 3-1.
The Hawks lengthened their lead in the second half with goals to make the score 5-1. Despite shots by Rachel Curtis, Helen Schweiger and Madison Woolbert, the Warriors were unable to pass the Hawks. Chowan won the game in a 5-1 final.
Southern Wesleyan will remain on the road on September 24 as they travel to Wilson, NC to take on the Barton Bulldogs at noon. They will then return to Childs Field on September 26 to take on the Toccoa Falls Screaming Eagles at 7 p.m.
