Southern Wesleyan Challenges But Cannot Pass Mount Olive

Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell to in their final game of the 2018 season to the University of Mount Olive Trojans in a 3-0 final on Saturday.

The Warriors took 20 shots and seven shots on goal in the loss to Mount Olive. Rachel Curtis led the team with seven shots. She was followed by Joy Namyst with five shots and three shots on goal, and Ashley Romanowski with four shots and one shot on goal.  Caitlynn Nixon played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded four saves in the loss.

How It Happened

Mount Olive and Southern Wesleyan challenged early as Jordyn Davis and Joy Namyst each took shots, but neither found the net.  The Warriors continued to pressure as Rachel Curtis and Ashley Romanowski each took shots on the goal, but Marlayna Frutiger and the Trojan defense blocked the shots from the net.  Despite several shots by Romanowski, Curtis and Namyst, the Mount Olive Trojans scored first on a goal by Samantha Bearden.

The Trojans charged out of the gate in the second half, taking a 2-0 lead on a goal by Jordyn Davis.  Southern Wesleyan countered with back-to-back shots by Joy Namyst and Rachel Curtis, but goalkeeper Marlayna Frutiger saved the ball.  Mount Olive went on to take a 3-0 lead to win the game.
