Coach Jernigan Says…
"Congratulations to Barton College. Their team really played well and had great intensity. We couldn't match their intensity today at all. We played well in doubles but couldn't close them out when we were up. Had multiple match points and just couldn't win those points. That took a lot out of us heading into singles and it showed. First time in a long time we looked scared and unsure of how we should play. We showed nerves to go along with being afraid and that's always a bad combination. Did have some bright spots with Jennifer Ball and Alexia Rodriguez winning their first sets but they didn't get to finish their match because Barton got 3 quick points at #2, #5 and #6 singles. We play Emmanuel Wednesday in our regional championship match with winner going to nationals in May so I hope girls are ready."
How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan challenged in doubles matches, but fell in all three to the Barton Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon. Jennifer Ball and Alexia Rodriguez lost their match 8-5. Both the teams of Aimee Dorley and Kristi Cooper, and Chyna Jones and Elizabeth Mulkey challenged, but fell in 8-7 (4) finals. Barton quickly took two singles wins to claim a 5-0 victory over the Warriors to advance to the finals.
The Warriors will next play the Emmanuel College Lions on April 26 at 3 pm. This will be the Regional Championship match. The winner will advance to Nationals.
