Conference Carolinas Announces Women's Indoor Track and Field Preseason Poll

High Point, NC – Conference Carolinas announced the 2017-2018 Indoor Track and Field Pre-Season Poll on January 3.  University of Mount Olive claimed first in the preseason poll with 80 points.

Last season, the Trojans took first place in the Conference Carolinas Indoor Track and Field Championship with 167 event points.  They took the title with first place finishes in 60m, mile, 3000m, 5000m, and weight throw.  Mount Olive went on to have a runner advance to the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field National Championship and be named an All-American.

Southern Wesleyan took second in the preseason poll with 72 points.  The Warriors claimed second place in the 2016-17 Indoor Championship with first place finishes in the 200m, 400m, 4x400 meter relay, pole vault, and shot put.  The Warriors were followed by the Limestone College Saints in third place in the polls with 67 points.  The Saints took third last season after setting several new program records.

The Barton Bulldogs came in fourth in the preseason poll with 58 points.  Last season, the Bulldogs of Wilson, North Carolina finished in fourth place in the championship.  The Bulldogs set several new school records during the meet.  They were followed by the North Greenville Crusaders in fifth place in the polls.  The Crusaders finished the indoor track season in fifth place with several top performances.  North Greenville was followed in the poll by the King Tornado in sixth with 43 points.  The Tornado took fifth in the championship last season.

The Lees-McRae Bobcats took seventh after receiving 37 votes.  The Bobcats took seventh place in the Conference Carolinas Indoor Championship last season.  The Bobcats were followed by the Belmont Abbey Crusaders in the poll.  The Crusaders took eighth in the poll with 35 points after finishing last season in eighth place.  The preseason poll was wrapped up with the Converse College Valkyries taking ninth place with 25 points.  The Valkyries finished the 2016-17 campaign in ninth place.

"We are excited to start this season," said Head Track and Field Coach Greg Theil.  "We have a lot of young athletes that we think can make a big impact for us."

Southern Wesleyan kicked off their season at the Kick-Off Classic on December 2.  They will return to the track on January 12-13 as they compete in the ETSU Invitational hosted by Eastern Tennessee State in Johnson City, TN.  The Conference Carolinas Indoor Championship will be held on February 17.
